Day 12 - Write or Die
Day: 12
Personal Status: Severely tired
Novel Status: Starting to annoy me
Word Status: 13,130
So I am SLOWLY getting to the Word Count requirement. By the end of today I need to have done 6,000-something words. How likely is that? Not very. ESPECIALLY because Im starting to get bored and tired of my stupid storyline!!! Aaaggrhhhhh.....that being said I am in no way giving up. Im sticking to this bad piece of garbage like gum!!! I figured if I add 1000 words extra to the necessaary total of 1667 per day (2667 for those who haven't had their coffee yet) then I will be up to speed in like...5 days.....Although with my CRAZY weekend I doubt I will have much time to sit and write so it will probably drag me back a couple of days....BOOOO!!!!.....
So last night, while doing everything BUT writing, I was searching the Nano forums and came across a thread with a title I had heard of but always dissmissed. WRITE OR DIE. At first I thought it was some competition where you are timed or something. I was actually quite right, but it wasn't what it seemed.
Basically, you set a word limit (mine was 500 - don't hold back now..im crazy!! haha) and then you set a time limit. (I did 10 minutes) and then you choose the mode and the grace period. Mode being: Gentle, normal, Kamikaze and not yet released...electric shock mode! haha....the grace period ranges from forgiving, to strict to Evil.
I chose Normal mode and Evil grace period.
So you go to another page and begin writing, when you stop, the page behind gets deeper shades of red the longer you don't type. I don't know what happens on that mode after it turns a nasty shade of devil red, because I kept writing and 500 words went pretty quickly.
Next I tried Kamikaze mode. This one is quite unforgiving. After a certain amount of time and red warnings, it starts DELETING your words! No joke. Be warned. I did reach my 1000 word limit in record time (not saying anything about the quality of it) but it was 1000 all the same.
It got me through my 3,000 words last night and would definitely recommend it to break the monotony. Even as I write this...I wait for my words to start disappearing right in front of me...
