Dark Phoenix vs. Spider-Man
April 18th 2009 23:19
Jean Grey became Dark Phoenix after her death from a solar radiation storm. She becomes so after an immortal, formless, and mutable manifestation from the cosmos, named the Phoenix Force, resurrects her after her death. The Phoenix Force, roaming the cosmos targets Jean Grey when it is attracted to her incredible power and indispensable mutant abilities. It is safe to say that the Phoenix Force takes Jean Grey as its form on earth, an incarnation so to speak. The Phoenix Force is never beginning and never ending, therefore it is deeply feared. Dark Phoenix, just as before she was resurrected, has telokinetic and telopathic abilities. She can also absorb her foe’s energy and life-force. She also has the ability to generate tremendous amounts of heat, as such that she incinerated the leader of the X-Men, her own former boss. In the X-Men comics she later goes on to become White Phoenix, using the powers of the Phoenix Force to travel back in time and even having the ability to change future outcomes and generations. To put it simply, Phoenix’s powers and ability are limitless, not to mention she is essentially an immortal .
A battle against Spider-Man is no walk in the park, just ask Wolverine. Spider-Man was able to defeat the green goblin, Dr. Octupus, and probably the toughest of all, Venom. Venom, just like Phoenix Force needs to take the form of human being, in a direct symbiotic relationship. The Venom needs a host, just like Jean Grey became Dark Phoenix after becoming the ‘host’ for the Phoenix Force. But the major key difference is that Venom can be killed while the Phoenix Force is infinite and never ending, as it is never beginning. Now as far as Spider-Man goes he has the spidy sense, is lightning quick, and most of all, he is on the ‘good’ side. However, this isn’t a happy movie, but a one on one battle. Whether a character is good or evil is subjective.
WHO WINS?
In a hypothetical battle between Phoenix and Spider-Man, there are limitless ways it could play out, all of which end up with Phoenix kicking Spider-Man’s ass. If she wanted to make it quick and easy, all she would need to do is use her telopathic powers to get inside Spiderman’s head to make him go crazy and then use her insurmountable ability to utilize heat to insinerate him. She can make it hard for him as well, making Spider-Man chase her around the world for days perhaps weeks. She knows what he is thinking and she is able to see the future so she knows the outcome. This will just make Spider-Man go crazy and once again all Phoenix has to do is think and Spider-Man will be blown into pieces. Another overlooked but important tidbit is that both of these personas, Jean Grey and Peter Parker, are extremely intelligent.
Phoenix, in my humble opinion has to be one of the most underrated of all the comic book heroes/villains considering her immense powers and ability. Disagree? Let me know……….

I think a better fight would be against Superman... You'd have to distinguish which version of Superman though... for example, if Dark Phoenix attempted to fight superman after he spent 1,000 years in the sun charging up, or even after he just sundipped, I think Superman would crush her without breaking a sweat.
I did read a great debate on Superman vs. The Silver Surfer. THAT is a great matchup.
