But shit it, we've been busy. Uni finals have taken their toll as of this morning (the first one went alright, thanks for asking) and the dissertation is bound and ready to hand in (it's impeccable, thanks for asking).

PM was at ATP this weekend just gone, and there's a story to be told there about cars and keys and trains and Butlins staff ramming me and myriad musical highlights (Spiritualized covering Daniel Johnston, anyone?) and there are a load of CDs stacked up for me to sort out (don't worry, Mike from As Built PR!) and an interview with Dark Captain Light Captain in a couple of weeks.

So fret not, patient reader. Simply look back at all the troll-like exxchanges between various anonymi on previous posts. THANKSBYE.

Look at this.

Then look at this.

That four seconds has made PM happy today.

Bye now.

Imitation Electric Piano Live

April 17th 2007 12:29
Imitation Electric Piano, Simon Johns from Stereolab's other band, played a most triumphant free show at East London's swanky and full-of-pre-curried-city-boys Vibe Bar on Brick Lane last Tuesday, and it was wicked. You should get their second record, it's called something funny like 'Burn it down, kick it till it bleeds' or something like that. Get it though, it's ace.

Here's what they looked like live:

Two weeks ago (yup... we like to keep it current round here...) PM saw The Butterflies of Love at the infeasibly small Buffalo Bar in London. They were fucking great. Here's what they looked like:

Yup! HERE! PM dunnit.

He used to be in The Delgados. He's still a hero. Good job. While you're there, take heed of the fact that The Downloader are now in week two of their Heist season, which gives you LOADS of free tracks by well wicked people. This week, it's Chemikal Underground's turn (obviously).

Gruff Rhys Splits Up With Himself!

April 1st 2007 10:42
Welsh purveyor of genius weirdities has posted a video of a press conference detailing his splitting up with himself. He hinted on the release of his first album in 2005 that he might well be the first solo artist to split up with himself due to musical differences, and now it seems to have happened. Ah well...

Go here to see it, it's illuminating stuff.

Anthems For Odyssey – Come Blister The Sea EP

Though their aesthetic may be somewhat overwrought, the aptly-monikered Anthems For Odyssey create the kind of thrilling, pulsing soundscapes that My Bloody Valentine would have done had they hung out with their more up-tempo contemporaries. The multi-faceted clatter of 'Song For Sveta' is the equal of anything on Silversun Pickups' record from last year that was so heralded, but with a more considered, less bombastic bent to it. This is clearly a thoughtful approach to a sound that can so often become slapdash.

New Beat Radio Mp3 to download

March 28th 2007 09:15
Is that the correct way to tabulate 'Mp3'? Who knows.

Remember last year when PM was going wicked mental for the bristly indie-popof New York's Beat Radio? Yeah, you do. Well, a new song is available for download. It's taken from a forthcoming EP called 'Safe Inside The Sound' (doesn't that sound reassuring?) which, on the strength of 'People Are Talking', should be pretty wonderful. Just listen to the bubbly keyboard noises under the verses... perfick.

madam, by not standing up to you i have succeeded in the ultimate victory. i rise above with dignity and the glow in my cheeks and heart that tell me i'm correct.

as oscar wilde once wrote (and i paraphrase); "be nice to your enemies: nothing annoys them more."

i'm glad sensible notions of discourse over mere opinion-firing still exist in our world.

can't you people comment on other posts? or listen to some other artists? there are plenty about...

don't it feel good to be right? cos you are. yes, anon. no. 2. you're right. mmm, lovely.

i don't like that he's allowed to make money. but if he wasn't i'd have nothing to moan about. so i guess i owe him...?

in the words of samuel l. jackson, 'allow me to retort'.

i have no qualms about the fact that the members of blink 182 are better musicians than me. but, as a consumer, i have the right to complain at what is thrust upon me by the music industry. without criticism, there would be no discourse in popular music, and discourse is very healthy. i realise that i can never hope to be as successful as them, and it does not bother me in the slightest.

as for selling 10 million records being a bastion of authenticity, look no further than the myriad artists who have sold many, many more and, i'm sure, you might consider inferior (the spice girls, daniel o'donnel, barry manilow.... though i LOVE manilow...). it matters not how many records you sell, it's how good you are. many artists can't rub two farthings together and produce more rewarding music than blink 182 could ever hope to.

blink 182 were, at the end of their career, a tool of the industry. anyone who thinks otherwise should read this book:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Producing-Pop-Culture-Conflict-Industry/dp/0340575123/sr=8-8/qid=1171365734/ref=sr_1_8/202-4253430-2515036?ie=UTF8&s=books

it will tell you, first-hand, all you need to know about the inner workings of the music industry. very revealing stuff.

finally, to lambast PM personally in the fashion you have just done is no better than the lambasting PM gave to Blink 182. i have a life, and i like it very much thankyou. those in glass houses and all that...

thanks for your comment!

i don't know, i still really like DiS, but then i'm biased cos i write for them! some comments people leave are harsh, true, but it's all just... err... forceful opinion!

any schizophrenia is just because they have so many different writers covering the same bands. several times i've given hellish reviews to bands that got praised by someone else. it's more honest than Q or the NME telling their writers which bands they're allowed to slag off.

that's nice. ta. i have a job. i like it.

please read some of my positive articles and listen to some of the bands i like to praise. this can serve as a comparison point to lil chris and illuminate the gulf in creative power between him and more engaging music.

simply, his music is not all that it could be. other artists do it better. it annoys me, personally, that lil chris could be a challenging young artist but instead follows the taste of the month and offers no substantial enjoyment to those who claim to like music. he is controlled by songwriters, producers, managers and a host of other industrial forces. anyone who disagrees should read this excellent book:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Music-Genres-Corporate-Cultures-Keith/dp/0415174007/sr=1-1/qid=1170608568/ref=sr_1_1/026-7760848-9638020?ie=UTF8&s=books

thanks for your comment, please listen to some of the artists pop musicology covers positively.

... for a horrible artist. i love fair discourse.

there are so many things wrong with this band that i literally can't contemplate discussing them for more than a minute. the live experience says it all, there's nothing humane or justified about proclaiming one's innocence when they intentionally join an army constructed on principles of destruction. delonge is misguided and ill-informed.

i know, i don't want to think about how long it took to make a list of fifty albums... too long, basically.

you should check out dark captain light captain if you like tunng: www.myspace.com/darkcaptain i think it is.
