The Official Nintendo Magazine UK contacted SEGA which they replied “no comment”.
It says that “Sonic Anniversary” will be available for Nintendo DS, PSP, Play Station 3 and Wii, with a Xbox 360 version to be confirmed. Although as according to a comment on the Spanish social network Tuenti, is said that there was going to be 4 Sonic games: Sonic Anniversary, Sonic 3DS (title not given yet), Mario and Sonic 3 (It’s possibly not a sports game) and Sonic 4 Episode 2. Even it might incorrect that information. Even though the Sonic 3DS game might be a Nintendo 3DS version of the game, although we don’t know yet until SEGA puts it on its websites. It said that it will be a mix of 2D and 3D with stages from various Sonic titles. Even Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode 2 is in production at the moment.

SEGA’s popular videogame series and mascot “Sonic the Hedgehog” is coming to a decline.
In 1991 SEGA’s mascot came to the rescue to make him as an official mascot and to succeed its previous mascot “Alex Kidd”. This videogame character (including the series) became very popular since his debut. From 1992-1995 many Sonic games were made in the USA because Yuji Naka and Naoto Oshima had problems at their Japanese Sonic Team studio. In 1995 Yuji Naka and his computer team returned to Japan to make new Sonic games such as Knuckles’ Chaotix for the SEGA Super 32X (known as the SEGA 32X in the USA and the Mega Drive 32X in Europe) and some other games like Sonic Drift 2. From 1996-2000 Sonic Team began to make less Sonic games, so that Sonic Team could concentrate on it’s non-Sonic games (such as NiGHTS, Phantasy Star and Samba de Amigo). In 2000 there was only one Sonic game released, called Sonic Shuffle for the Dreamcast. Since Yuji Naka left Sonic Team in 2006, Nishiyama (who succeeded Yuji Naka) became President of Sonic Team and soon they began to make a lot of Sonic games and this made SEGA too guilty, so by 2012 and future years they might either be 0 or 1 Sonic game. In 2011 they’ll be 3 Sonic games. The truth is this might not happen after 2011, but if it does this would upset the fans. We do not know if this blog and many other Sonic sites would have a lot of posts or news to put, after 2011, it would probably just crap from old Sonic games and new related merchandise. Although, after 2011, SEGA will still own the rights for Sonic, if they don’t make any Sonic games after 2011.
