July 23rd--
Today, I made a 35 mile trip and the bike worked . The gears slipped a few times and I stopped by the shop for a fine adjustment after which it worked perfectly for the remaining 9 miles. I will make another trip later this week.
I just had my bike repaired. The shift cables had to be replaced and it cost only $22.00 I hope to get a lot of miles out of them. Before the repair job, I was stuck in the lowest gear and that was annoying since I had to pedal very fast to get up any speed. Now, it will be a breeze.
June 20, 2007 I racked up 11 miles today in just 42min 27sec. The hills do not get any easier but the ride made me feel good and not overly tired. There are 2 routes I have to do yet. One is 47 miles in length and the other is 57 miles in length. The latter route has some major hills in the beginning the middle and the end of the ride. I use a heavier bike to make these runs and then when I make a ride of 100 miles or more, I will use the street bike and that way, it will seem easier to do. The average speed if all goes well, should remain above 13 miles per hour. On the longer rides, I need to have a rest stop every 90 minutes of riding or about once every 20-25 miles. Also, I don't use as low a gear as I used to when I began early in the spring. Thanks for reading and have a nice day.
I am proposing a very long bike tour up to northern Ohio. I was planning to take rest stops every 90 minutes of ride time with each break being 20 minutes. Is this ok? This trip would have to be made while there is at least 15 hours of daylight, since I will be shooting for an average speed of 12-15mph. Any advise would be welcome. So sign up and have your say
