I knew the sex talk would get you in - but do it in the family, not with me.
Fond as I am of computer art and playing with it and admiring my own work and ESPECIALLY having your comments, be they very few, as to what your mind does with it, what I write about Paint is just a means to an end, I want to motivate those with computer skills to encourage in a non threatening way those with no to few skills to join with the rest of the world, that means leading them gently by the hand, just showing them how to switch on/off, get anything onto the screen and proceed from there.
The art lessens the threat of computers, after all everyone likes looking
at pictures, and have some fun while you're there and forget about how important you are, that will drive them so far away, so fast, you'll wonder why they leave you just sitting there!
Unfortunately, so many of you MISS THE POINT, that's OK you can learn too.
For fear of being seen as being interested in anything so simple you
ignore it or put forward more sophisticated suggestions.
Well may they have their place, but come down from your ivory tower, think about preserving and improving brain function and
learn a few things yourself!
Use of computers can help lessen depression, especially for the older generation. It does give them a little more opportunity to engage with the modern world and to have fun and learn things and see things that they otherwise can't do. More on this another time.
I close with a rather upbeat poem which unfortunately rhymes, but intentionally so. You'll get more fun from the metre.
Computalk and Compuspeak!
It's whyssiwigs and fuzzy logic,
it's bit and bytes and buses,
it's ports and ipods,not together,
it's harware,software and net - working,
it's internet and web, it's logs and blogs and pages,
it's binary and MacIntosh as well as Microsoft
it's rams and roms and writeonly,
and chips and gigs and megas,
it's information technology, it's programmers and technicians,
it's scanners, 3-4 in one's, it's pentiums and celeron,
it's modems, it's pixels and resolutions, it's lasers and LCDs
it's corel and adobe and photoshop,
it's optical and wireless
it's mouses but not mices,
it's laptops and download me,
it's cyberspace, it's ebooks and ebay
and everything dotcom
it's bandwidth and bin access
it's HTML's and domains
It's no wonder I can't keep up with it.
It leaves me in such pain.
So,
Come on all ye superior,
get down on your hands and knees,
learn to play the metaphor of life
get down from your ivory tower
to be with others, so easily pleased.
It's only with your help and co-operation that any of this can be achieved but
remember the wise words of the Mayo Clinic who say exercise for the brain
is useful at any age. You don't have to be a winner, all that is needed is to be a beginner.
