Cutting CO2
June 9th 2009 16:11
For years now, experts have been warning us about the effects of excess carbon dioxide on the atmosphere. What they've been hammering at us is that CO2 is directly linked to global warming. Since few real tests can confirm the amount of effect C02 has it is impossible to say, but we do know that reducing our CO2 emissions is a step in the right direction. According to MSN.com the average household produces 26,000 pounds of CO2 a year! The way that most people produce extra CO2 is through the use of electricity which is generated at a power plant spewing CO2. What can you do to help? Here's a few easy and simple ways to reduce your production of carbon dioxide:
1. Replace your incandescent light bulbs with Fluorescent bulbs. This cuts your energy usage drastically and is not that much more expensive. The lights pay for themselves fairly quickly as well.
2. Buy used. A new product involves a lot to make, and by buying used things such as furniture, vehicles, and housewares your saving a lot of production energy. Need some inspiration? Check out your local St. Vincent de Paul or Goodwill store, or garage sales.
3. A little more expensive initially, but replace your water heater with an energy-efficient model. The money savings are instant and your saving the environment.
