Crossing Over with John Edwards - Part 1

November 11th 2006 08:29
My excitement has been building all week and finally last night the time came. My friend picked me up at 5:30pm and off we went to the Brisbane Concert Hall to see John Edwards. It was like walking (and parking) in a dream…

As is usually the case on any expedition, I have no expectations, just a sense of wonder and open minded curiosity. The tickets were expensive at over $100 but there are things that have to be done in life and there are reasons to make money.

I don’t watch TV, but we have one and every now and then it gets switched on. Over the years I have watched a total of about 35 minutes of John Edwards on his Crossing Over show. I have read nothing on him and previously to last night, knew very little about him… I still do not… but sitting only 10 rows away from this man through an open “performance” has been life defining, and whilst I may not know him much better… I do know myself a little bit more as a result.

The Brisbane Concert Hall is a huge affair with beautiful lighting and seating and the acoustics and timbre of John’s voice did not grate. His New York, Italian twang could actually be called sexy. The lack of noise a huge blessing, as I am forced more and more these days to take ear plugs to most events, for fear of fading from all the noise...(a great amusement to my children each time..

I have discovered that in life, timing is significant and I believe everything happens right on time… handle it or not… I don’t think God, cares if you are a sceptic, or a cynic or… or just a swing voter… but you will get what you need …right on time.

As John talked about his life, 9/11, and dreams… can you believe it, about dreams… and five other things I really needed to know about to move on to my own next level… I started to really understand the deepest meaning of that verdict.

You see, a measure of existentialism had quietly crept in with my middle age and I had been wavering a bit... teetering on the edge of really believing in something, anything… but not all the time, you understand…just now and then like an irregular heartbeat … what was really there after I close my eyes for the last time and give up the ghost..? I guess traditional Christianity would see me as a doubting Thomas… ‘yep! see it when I believe it…oops… I mean, believe it when I see it… Is there a difference (?)

*pondering*

The thing is; an evening with this man, watching him working and allowing your self the luxury of a completely open mind … for the benefit of the doubt… is a joy to have experienced. It was not supernatural but more hyper-natural. The payload for my great effort of keeping my mind open was that I was left with not the slightest doubt, (a) he is genuine (but not in a messiah-ish way); and (b) that it is exactly as I believed it was when I was a carefree young child... There is something after death...You die and all your people are there… even non-believers have relatives and friends and old pets, lost children and aunts who love them and who will eventually reach you when you get there, no matter the grief…or belief…

The rest is academic …

Oh, I lapped up every word of this! You are so fortunate to have been able to have an experience such as this. I'm delighted and excited for you! I don't hold the man on a pedestal or see him in a divine light, necessarily, but there is something about him. I think you nailed it when you said charisma. The sexy accent doesn't hurt. *grins*

I'm curious. On his shows, he reads usally or or two, rarely three people or groups of people. It's most often two readings, and then a follow up on each. Surely he can't only read two people during an entire live performance! Can you give me an estimate of how many people he offered readings for, and approximately how long he spoke with each?

Hey Lilla, if you have time to write, I wouldn't mind seeing another post on the same topic, describing some of his readings.

Predictably, I'm a bit skeptical. But loved your second-last paragraph, and I do think it would be a wonderful thing to have certainty. After all, I think we want to believe that everything we do matters.

Out of curiosity, have you attended any seances in Sydney (you live in Sydney, right?). Is there any medium you would recommend?

Wendi,

I never did get a chance to thank you for my garden in absence and I do so now...

Hi Adrian,

Thanks for your compliment and comments. Perhaps another post, yes why not…later tonight, as I have to give someone a reading myself this morning and am tied up until then. I need time in my garden too. No, I live on the southern tip of the Sunshine Coast or the outer northern fringe of Brisbane depending on how you look at it.

I do not attend séances because I cannot see the point…(?) As a believer I have my own communication channels open and I have no need to contact anyone on the other side. My guides usually highlight up coming events for me anyway…. And if ancestors or angels need me or an acquaintence, they come during dream time … I will be doing a post on what John said about the difference between dreams and visitations soon … so you’ll know too.

Sorry I can't recommend anyone...

Looking forward to the additional post, as well as deeper insights into dreams vs. visitation.

I'm curious about your opinion on something, Lilla. Must one believe in Christianity's portrayal of God in order to believe in Angels? I've never asked myself that before, but the question is burning now and I'm interested in your perspective on the subject, especially after this little series of posts and your current subject matter.

When you have time, of course, and if you feel so inclined.

HI Wendi,

No I do not believe so... angels have been around in all religions, haven't they? Two references have predominated history - those of cosmic eggs and those of angels. Even to the Greeks who had no ascension mythology had Hermes who served as the messenger to the gods. In Egypt the goddess Mepthys was also winged and appears in tomb hieroglyphics. Etruscan tombs show pictures of winged Griffins as well as other animals in Ezekiel...although winged animals are not angels par se.

Historically it is interesting to note that the Abrahamic traditions [Judaism, Christianity and Islam] wings did not appear on angels with any regularity until the time of Emperor Constantine. Angel art of course did not become popular until the Renaissance. Yet interestingly carvings of winged beings have been found in caves throughout the world, long before the religions of today were formed.

If you track theology and cosmology together with historians, you will notice many great similarities. For example; many scholars feel that Zoroaster [approx. 1200-1500BCE] started the idea of angels and monotheistic religion through a vision, in which he found himself wrestling with a demon he named Angra Mainyu – the Prince of lies or Demon of Doubt and Despair, also called Ahaitin [like ‘Satan’ - the Accuser]. Working together with supreme God of Goodness and Light, Ahura Mazda (‘wise lord’), he eventually overthrew the demon. The story tells of how it was in the holy rivers that the ‘host of heaven’, the angels of darkness and light fought their battle.

There are many others like the Egyptian Akhenaton who fought to introduce monotheistic principles with angelic overtones and herein lies an interesting irony because it widely acknowledged that it is the angels who visit mortals and give these visions in the first place…

Rabbi David Wolpe calls them “God’s Entourage?”

New Age traditions consider them beings of energy that exist in between the spaces beyond human perception… except for those who can see them and they have been many who have existed within and without orthodox religions throughout history.

Modern Angel Guru, Doreen Virtue was here on the Sunshine Cost recently and a close friend took her workshop. She has approached me with a view to running Angel workshops together - combining our skills - since I use the cards as a componenet of my own readings...

My Mum always says: you should never drive faster than your guardian angel can fly!

Thanks LaurenD,

I enjoyed your's too...

Yes, I am encouraged to read a bit more about him now, although he talked a bit about himself and his childhood, which was very interesting. Thanks for the recommendation.

I've got a deck of Doreen's Fairy Oracles - Healing with the Fairies - a gift from several years back from a friend in Australia. I've never read any of her books, though, and don't know much about her, really. This deck, though, resonates with me and I ALWAYS use it in conjuction with readings done with my "first deck", the Rider Waite Tarot. They two decks work incredibly well together.

Thanks for the feedback on the topic of Angels. Didn't mean to stray too far from the John Edward discussion, but it all seems to tie together. And speaking of John Edward, I'm off to read the next installment. *smiles*

Not a problem Wendi,

It is a great question and with your permission, I've recreated both question and response in a new post...

Thanks Wendi...
