crinoline lady
January 8th 2009 10:13
The arrival of Clarice through our front-door, seems to have had a 1930's influence on my work. This vintage tea cloth suddenly came to life as a tote depicting the infamous crinoline lady gathering blooms in her garden - a little like me I guess, except the crinoline is more likely to be dirt streaked denim.
On the back is a vivid image of the hollyhock garden. (I have to say, my foxgloves could compete with this scene very strongly right now.)
The crinoline lady is a very popular icon and appears frequently on vintage china
but most often on embroideries.
Later in the week I was drawn to this delightful old world fabric and made the yoyo to coordinate with it - and next thing you know, another tote with a 30's feel.
Thank you Clarice, for bringing some creative inspiration with you this week, as you emerged from your wrappings deep within the packing boxes.
If you would like the Crinoline Lady Tote, she can be found here. The Vintage Style Tote has already sold.
