Part six: Feeling the love
Time is flying and so I am. I feel like my head is up in the clouds and I’m walking on air. I’m relaxed, no more anxiety frying my brain. I have a numbness running through my veins, which feels amazing and different to being inebriated.
I stumble into my old mate Ray, who I haven’t seen since we were in primary school – 13 years ago. But, like everyone else at this bar, he too is on some form of illicit substance and the drug is clearly working its wonders, because we greet each other with no awkwardness but with mutual happiness and affection, like long-lost frat boy buddies.
Ray, an alternative to the extreme, has either smoked a bit too much of the good stuff or he’s been reading too much hippy shit. But, hey who am I to knock someone? Everyone is slightly insane in their own way. God knows I’m nutty and who wants to conform to mainstream bullshit anyway?
Ray starts creeping out the pretty blonde girl next him with his theories on monogamous relationships and “love”.
“I don’t believe in being in a committed relationship. I think it is healthy and spiritual to be with many different people and to feel love in a pure form of spirituality,” he says, as I nod pretending to understand his dribble.
He then directs his love my way.
“I can say I love you man. I don’t love you physically but you represent a time in my life that I love and is special to me. So you embody an essence of my being and that will have meaning for eternity.”
He clearly is talking a bit too much wank for my liking but I’m cool with it, particularly in my parched state of mind.
Roy rejoins us as the table with his hippy scraggy haired friend, who could easily pass as a Jesus impersonator but there is no seating available and he has to stand along the narrow laneway.
