Mosquitoes are attracted to dark colors, not only black, because dark colors absorb heat and lighter colors tend to reflect heat. Since mosquitoes have sophisticated heat sensors, they tend to be more attracted to darker clothes.

A staycation is a neologism in vogue, where a person or family stays home instead of taking expensive and stressful vacations to exotic locations. It is a new travel word and is very popular what with today’s recession and high prices.

Rubin’s scale

April 18th 2009 02:47
Zick Rubin is known for his questionnaire measuring love. To develop this measure, Rubin first wrote a large number of thoughts based on his understanding of the terms ‘love’ and ‘liking.’ Rubin decided that love has three elements: attachment (a physical or emotional need for the other), caring (giving to the other), and intimacy (close and confidential communication). Liking, according to Rubin, is undifferentiated positive regard. Next, Rubin sorted the questionnaire items into ‘love’ and ‘liking sets based on their understanding of these terms. Then he chose 70 items and gave them to 200 undergraduate students. The students were asked to respond to each item in terms of their feelings toward their boyfriend or girlfriend (if they had one) and in terms of their feelings toward a platonic friend of the opposite sex.

Green Box policies in economics

April 14th 2009 04:03
Governments provide support to agriculture in numerous ways, for example, direct payments, research grants, loan programs, and storage programs to name a few. Under the Uruguay Round Agreement on Agriculture (URAA), domestic support programs are divided into three boxes that indicate the trade distorting effects of the programs. Green Box programs are considered to be less trade distorting. Blue Box programs are considered to be more trade distorting but have production limits embedded in them. All other programs are Amber Box programs. They are considered to be the most trade distorting.

Gild the Lily

February 5th 2009 06:05
“Gild the Lily” is the famous phrase used by William Shakespeare in his play King John. Gild means to cover with a thin layer of gold. But why did he refer it to the Lily is the question that comes to our mind? Because Lily is the beautiful flower and covering it with gold to make it more beautiful would be necessary. So, the phrase came into picture which meant to spoil something which is already beautiful by adding something extra.
