Clean Green NZ? No not really

Now there has been some talk in the press about how clean green NZ is? Well after being here 8 years, I would say the only reason we have the appearance of being clean and green is because we haven't the same amount of people living here. As if we had a more of a population then we would have the same problems as other countries.
A good example is all the building of new houses and sub divisions that are springing up all over the place.
Now generally every year the generating companies warn, there isn't enough hydro water in the lakes, so they might struggle to match demand as if we were a thrid world country?
So my point is, why are all these big new modern houses that have all the gadgets, en suites not having solar panels fitted to heat the water when they are being built?
As if you are building a house costing $300,000 plus then to be honest and extra $5-10k for a good system isn't going to break the bank is it? You would think that it would be law to have all new houses to have solar panels but then thats too obvious really isn't it.
I read somewhere about how kiwi's don't insulate their homes very well, this could be due to the cost and also more grants would be useful as I couldn't get any help for my last home but wasn't earning enough at the time to afford it. But then it seems if I was a landlord who owned a few rentals, then I could get help to take out old open fires and woodburners etc.
But as I wasn't then I couldn't get any help to take out my old fire etc.
But then we do have something great in Chch and that is the SuperShed along Pages road, can pick up some interesting things there and amazing what people throw away.
There is a new short story posted on the short story blog and you can you the link on the short story blog to link to Swept from the Sea.
