Because of its convenience and flexibility, more and more computer rental owners are using wireless network for their business. Unlike the traditional wired cables, the wireless network is now being used for Internet access and connectivity to other units in the shop. Aside from Internet access, business owners can also use wireless network to share printers, files, and a other gadgets or pieces of equipment.

Contrary to what others think, it is easy to install a wireless network especially for a computer rental business. Here are some steps that can greatly help you in installing a new one:

1. Choose wireless equipment well. In creating a wireless network, all you need to do is to choose your wireless equipment, connect your wireless router, configure your wireless router, and connect your computers. For starters that will be using Windows XP, a Windows XP Service Pack 2 is not really required for wireless networking. Though it’s not a necessity, having the service pack will make things much easier because it will protect your network against viruses, worms, hackers, and other Internet intruders.

2. Find time in buying your wireless equipment. You can do this by researching and looking for the equipment that you really need. While surfing the net for several products in stores or on the Internet, you will have the freedom to choose the equipment that will support three different wireless networking technologies such as 802.11a, 802.11b, and 802.11g. Experts say that 802.11g is highly-recommended because it offers excellent performance and is truly compatible with almost anything and everything.

3. Look for a reliable wireless network adapter. This is very important in setting up a wireless network because it will help the wireless router to work at its best. If you are going to buy an adapter for a desktop computer, might as well buy a USB wireless network adapter. And if you have a laptop, it is advisable to buy a PC card-based network adapter. Above all else, it is a must to make sure that you have an adapter for every computer included on your network. To have an easy setup, try to choose a network adapter made by the same vendor who created your wireless router.

4. Double-check your computer before installing a new wireless router. Since you have acquired relatively new units for your computer rental shop, it is best to check its essential parts. For all you know, it may already have wireless capabilities built with it and there’s no need for you to spend bucks for such. When this happens, you will not need other attachments such as adapters.

5. Opt for bundles. Sometimes, there are still other attachments needed for it. If it is inevitable to buy some parts, it will make your shopping easier when you purchase a bundle, like those available from Netgear, D-Link, Linksys, Microsoft, or Buffalo. And if you have a desktop computer, make sure to buy USB port for you to plug the wireless network adapter into. If in case you don’t have available or open USB ports, you should buy a hub to add these necessary ports.

These are just some of the things that you need to know when setting up wireless network for your computer rental business. You will need more time to research for everything you need to know about the connection.

If you run into any problems, consult the handbook that came with your wireless network or call for technical support.

There may be a lot of computer rental shops out there especially in commercial areas where computer terminals are scarce. These businesses thrive on a market that are caught in a crunch without a computer or those who just want to use the computer outside their home.

But though there are a lot out there, only a few shops can live up to the expectation. Some computer rental shops especially those in small towns have slow internet access and even slower word processors. This is why branded computer rental shops are often jampacked with customers. These people know quality service when they "try" one. Here are some of the things that make a good computer rental shop. Read on and you might learn a trick or two before putting up your very own.

1. Fast computers
Face it. Your clients are not born yesterday. They all know how to use the computer so that probably have their own computers at home. Giving them a computer that is a decade old or a model that is already several seasons old is not the way to endear yourself to your customers and ensure a good word of mouth. When buying computer terminals, make sure that they have a fast computer processor. It does not have to be the latest in the market but it needs to be a bit new. A season or two seasons ago can work. Another trick to make sure that your computer works fast is the RAM that you put inside. The higher the memory or the RAM, the faster your computer will be.

2. Fast access
Another criteria that your computer rental shop needs to pass is the internet connection. People go to these shops primarily to use the internet. Only a select few actually rent a computer for word processing. This is why it is important that you also put a fast internet connection. Most clients will use it for gaming purposes while others will chat or surf the net. You can do this by checking with your internet service provider to see if they have faster connections. If ISPs are not that good. Go for another one.

3. WiFi
There are people who will also bring their laptops or those whose cellular phones can access the internet. Although these people do not anymore need the computer terminals, they need the WiFi to access the internet. You can provide this service and add some income to your computer rental shop. Check out your local store for details on how to set up a WiFi connection. It's pretty easy. In fact, you can even forgo with the wires and just set up the whole shop in WiFi.

4. Coffee and food
This will not only be an additional service for you, it will also make sure that you will have relaxed clients. Besides, it is a prove fact that when clients eat inside computer terminals, they will use their computers much longer as they will need to eat everything up before they leave!

5. Printing and fax
This is another service that you need to provide for your clients in the computer rental shop. Remember that some of these people that you are servicing are office workers who need computer access because of an emergency. Take advantage of this market.

These days, when economy is down and the future seems to be unclear, you have to do everything right in order to make things work your way. Having your own business is risky. But if you have the capacity to be able to grow such venture, then go ahead and try your luck. One of the most popular choices for young entrepreneurs these days is a computer rental business.

Setting up is an easy task especially if you are determined to succeed with your project. You may want to start looking at the following. These are the four P's of marketing that you can apply on your business.

1.) Product. Before you even start, you must take note of how are you going to be able to convince people to try you out. What's different about what you are offering to people that they will find so hard to resist? By answering such important question, you will be able to set your business apart from your contemporaries. And this will set you up in a competitive mode. This way, whatever you decide in the process is a result of your confidence that you can make it and your business will grow and succeed.

2.) Price. You have to do your own research as to how much your competitors charge for their services. You must play with those rates. You cannot give a very low rate just so you can convince people that you are the better choice. This may backfire on you in the long run and may even result for you to close down. And you cannot also offer prices that are too high. You can't expect people to choose you if you in this light no matter how upgraded your PC's are or even if you have all the latest about the technology that you are offering to people. If they can find similar attributes on other companies without costing them too much, of course, they will prefer the services of those companies.

3.) Place. In setting up your business, it will be best if you are going to study the location where you are going to place your own. You have to know first who your target market is. After knowing the needed information about the matter, you have to find out where they are. Place your business where your target market will see you. If not for these people, you will not succeed with your venture. You have to make them realize that you exist. You have to follow their lead.

You must also consider the competition. You cannot set up your business where there are so many the same businesses catering to the target market that you also want to serve. You may not be able to thrive well on such environment because people will trust those businesses who have been there longer, not unless you will be able to come up with a super genius idea that will make your competitors' loyal clients turn their heads your way.

4.) Promotion. After everything has been taken care of, you must make sure that the public is aware that your computer rental business is open and ready to serve them. You can achieve this by promoting what you have set up. This can be done at minimal costs by choosing print ads. You just have to make sure that such ads will get into the hands of the people whom you want to be your clients.
