Computer Art as a means to an end
October 27th 2006 11:19
While Computer Art can stand alone as an art form, it can be used as a tool leading to a variety of ends.
It can provide Art for appreciation in its own right but I am endeavouring to use it as an avenue for discussion to open up communication, to challenge and inspire the Brain, as an opportunity for those having few or no computer skills to acquire some and to see some success for their efforts in demonstrating an ability to produce successful images themselves and for those with computer skills to have some fun and relaxation using unsophisticated but readily available tools to foster their own abilities and develop more of an appreciation of themselves as people, with valuable skills and capable of taking on new things for mind exercise and activity.
Am I seeking to do too much too soon?
What do you think of these ideas and what do you suggest I can do to assist in achieving my ends.
I'm having fun and admiring my own work and at least some others seem to show some appreciation and I am delighted with that.
But how do I appeal to the rest of you?.
Already, it is apparent that the male mind seeks better and more functional skills by using superior programs, whereas their female counterparts are tuning into a wider view not restricted by the technical skills but relating to what they see in front of them and letting their minds explore.
Of course, this is a very narrow view, restricted to too few readers but are we already engaging in a male/female mind experiment and what does this experiment begin to reveal?
All of these things fascinate me, but how can I induce more readers to engage in their own particular fascination with respect to Computer Art.
It can be quite difficult, a bit like trying to encourage me to like football.
But I am learning new things about those liking football even if I am not induced to be interested in the football itself. This brings with it its own form of fascination.
Really my main aim is to attract as many people to the site as possible and there are probably things I fail to do.
Readership is a prime requirement for all of us. It's all very interesting really.
I guess with continued exposure more readers will arrive but it is very important to receive comments to indicate where I am heading.
What can I do to encourage you to leave those comments?
Time perhaps will tell.
I am intending to do at least one image for this post but it is quite hard to continue producing at such a fast rate.

I wrote you a beautiful long sincere thankyou but I seem to have lost it.
I'm not sure I can do it again.
However, I do appreciate your views even if I only understood 1/3 of it and I am still trying to work out what a one trick pony is.
I have lots of tricks and learn from and with them all the time.
I think we have a bit of the male/female brain thing going on here.
Whatever I have done I did one thing right, you're here with your comment aren't you?
The computer art changes and moves backwards and forwards, I think we are on different wave lengths but that in itself is good to know.
I'll come over for a little visit and hope that way I'll stay a little more connected with your point of view.
But do rest assured your comment was very much appreciated.

I have just returned from visiting you but I see we crossed half way.
Let me assure you I really did value your prescence and throwing your hat in the ring.
I'd really like to be learning computer science but my journey is taking me in other directions, what I've picked up with I've picked up on the run.
I'd really like to know the inner secrets and not just simply more about the Web.
You're not the only technophile on Orble.

We keep getting to the half way mark, where our paths seem to be crossing.
It's nice to have your interest!

I'm not very skilled with visual arts. I did try my hand at tinkering with microsoft paint, and my daughter is my biggest fan. Oddly enough, the first piece I ever did on microsoft paint was called "change", and while the colors and layout vary from yours slightly, they do have a similar "message". I followed my "change" with an explosion of dark and bright colors I called "skyfire", and a third piece, my favorite, is a portrait of The Green Man. A few attempts at gnomes after that, and then I threw in the towel and resigned myself to my words.
I say don't sweat the small stuff. Use whatever programs are fun and easy for you, unless, of course, you're trying to make a career out of it. Doing it professionally changes the dynamics. I prefer doing it for the sake of doing it. *smiles*
If it helps, my own mother laughed at my artwork. *LOL* She is, however, a fan of my writing.
Keep on keepin' on! Experimenting with colors, I believe, is therapeutic!

Those images you did sound great and no I am not seeking a career in the visual Arts.
Your daughter was impressed and Mum wasn't.
But, there you have it that's three in the family to talk about it and is Mum computer literate, maybe this is something you can all do together and lead you into conversation in the family.
It's a different approach and difference is good and exploring it is good exercise for the brain and helps maintain those vital neural connections.
This is not to say that something that has medical value is not at the same time fun and entertaining.
Challenge Mum, yet again, and suggest she tries to do some with daughter looking on and trying too.
It's amazing what a little art can do and believe you me I'm no artist but I love playing with paint and colour and containing it within the computer means you don't need a studio and there is negligible cost involved.
Thanks for your comment, it is very well received.

Motherhood
Katyzzz,
I love this picture....I want a large version hanging on my lounge room wall...
I love it so much, and I have no idea why....
It looks promising to me....the future...success....something along those lines...it's a picture to say I've achieved a lot...
