COMING TO THE BIG SCREEN: ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT – THE MOVIE
December 7th 2008 20:57
Arrested Development is one of the funniest TV series with one of the most dysfunctional families. It has been nominated for 15 Emmys, won 5 and received good reviews from critics. Strangely, it didn’t have a large audience and was cancelled after the third season in 2006.
Ever since the third season’s finale, rumors of a feature length movie have been circulating. Two years later, the rumors, were still going rampant. Now, Arrested Development fans can start celebrating. Jeffrey Tambor, who plays the role George Sr. told Collider.com that the Arrested Development movie has been green lighted. Jason Bateman (Michael Bluth) told ComingSoon.net that no plot has been written. “I know that Mitch [executive producer] has a couple of ideas, but he's really waiting to nail it down until he knows exactly who's going to be involved.”
The movie will be written and directed by Mitch Hurwitz (TV Series creator and executive producer) and produced by Ron Howard (TV Series executive producer and Narrator). No specific release date has been scheduled, only that it might hit theaters next year. Even though the series cast members have previously stated that they would love a movie based on the series, it’s still unclear if they will all comeback in their respective role.
A new rumor started by the movie is that it is be the first step towards reviving the series.
Since Arrested Development was canceled, the main characters have appeared in a least one movie or TV series:
Jason Bateman (Michael Bluth) Hancock (2008) as Ray Embrey
