Poor Honduras, trying to protect its country from a left wing/communist take over. I hope they didn't expect to get any support from the US gov't, which has a long history of abusing allies and rewarding its enemies. If your a tyrant, like North Korea, just start building a nuke and suddenly we are offering free oil, food, commercial goods, etc. But, if your like Honduras and want to prevent the circumventing of your constitution by left wing fanatics, please don't look to us for any support. In fact, we will condemn you for being proactive in protecting your democracy. Tell you what, after you become another Castro/Chavez like dictatorship, then we will send diplomats to stroke your villainous leaders and offer incentives so you will be our friends again. Maybe after 50 years of that there will be some small changes in your country, like Castro finally allowing Cuban citizens to finally own cell phones and buy microwave ovens earlier this year. That wasn't too hard, only took 50 years. BUT the nerve of your freely elected congress, (who swore an oath to protect their constitution, not their president), to take action on your own, without US consent, well, its just not done.
I hope they learn their lesson. Maybe they already have, by reviewing the sad history of fallen democracies (Vietnam, Burma, Cuba, Venezuela, Nicaragua, Russia, china, Germany, all the eastern European countries post WWII, and almost all African nations) who didn't act promptly to stop these dictators when they had a chance. Some of these nations clawed back their freedom and re-established democracies, others never will.
I say ROCK ON HONDURAS! More power to your congress with backing by your military. Or at least as much as your constitution allows...
I've been mesmerized to watch the mass media machine churn over and over minutiae concerning celebrity deaths, but almost nothing of value concerning the cap and trade bill that passed in the House. Small mention, barely a footnote on this sweeping tax bill that will effect every American, from the increases of every electric bill in the country, to the cost of food production and transportation.
Is the American intellect so shallow that this is the level of news we demand from news services or is the mass media delivering what they think Americans want, assuming incorrectly that Americans are morons?
I really don't know. Maybe most Americans feel helpless, feel that since they have no real say in what is happening, that they don't care anymore. I have friends who say that they feel as if they have been caught in a tornado, its all they can do to deal with their own personal challenges. "The politicians are going to do whatever they want to, we have no say". I share their feelings.
When the ship is sinking, its time to think exclusively on your own personnel survival. We are all watching the cost of gas again, holding our breathes, fearing a 4 plus dollar a gallon. And who isn't worried about job loss? Not congress. After a person gets elected to the Senate, they have a very generous retirement plan. Full pay, free chauffeured transportation, use of the congressional gym, free mail, shops that offer special discount prices, free plants for theirs office, free travel to and from home states(Pelosi gets to use a gov't jet for her own exclusive use), special subways, elevators and many more perks await.
Sounds fair, since they work a grueling 3 days a week (that's what it averages out to be). That's how may days congress will be in session this year. And every year, its been shrinking. Ever wonder why most bills never get read? Because most senators are hardly ever in session. Empty chairs.
Bottom line, the average American works 250 days per year, the average Senator works 100 days less. Pathetic. Shame on them.
I wonder what the world thinks of this congress and the spending/borrowing spree going on? Russia and China are now pushing for a world currency, trying desperately to get away from the U.S. dollar. I don't blame them. Is hyper inflation around the corner? How much will a loaf of bread cost next year?
Watch Europe. France and England are trying to switch from socialist agendas to a more conservative societies. Why? Because socialism didn't work for them. They are tired of double digit unemployment and high taxes. We are diving right into the same trap that Europe is trying to climb out of.
Are we to be the Lemmings of the world? Lets play follow the leader, running right off a cliff into oblivion.
Well, I'm taking a deep breath. Lets hope for the best, just pray we can hang on.
I remember a time when we Americans looked forward to the future. Who can say that now? Can we maintain our standard of living? Will our children suffer for Wall Streeters greed? Undoubtedly. Its already happened. How did Wall Steeters suffer for this greed? They got nice, big bailouts that allowed them to increase their bloated paychecks. Because they are special, we are told. The nation can't survive without them. A base canard, in my opinion. But, the rich protect the rich, so what can we expect? God forbid if their standard of living/social statis gets effected. I would'nt cry a single tear if it did.
There is an old chinese curse "May you live in interesting times". Well, we are no doubt living the curse.
Have you ever been in a dark room, no windows and there is a bright 100watt light bulb on? If you turn off the bulb, you will see an eery glow that rapidly but steadily diminishes in brightness until there is absolute darkness. Well, we are living in the afterglow of that bright burning light we called freedom and democracy. Its a faint glow and soon the darkness will seize us all. Why am I so certain, so fatalistic? Because I don´t see anyone taking the necessary action required to save the republic from the disaster approaching. I see gobs of money being thrown around, because money can solve any problem, right? so lets throw 50 billion to the auto industry, but not fix the inept management and production of unwanted models of cars. Heck, lets put a retired communications CEO in charge of a major auto manufacturer, that ought to fix the problem. Even he admits he knows nothing about the auto industry, but, hey, if he can run AT&T, then he can run anything. Oh, and while we are at it, lets cripple the last industry in this country that still works and put a tax on cow farts. Yep, tax farmers for their barn yard animals because they produce methane. NUTS. Can you imagine our fathers generation giving in to such sanfransico insanity? They would have laughed these people back to the obscurity where they belong. Instead, these nut cases are being taken seriously and this tax will probably pass. A one hundred dollar plus tax on every cow, lamb, pig in the country. Well, that ought to do it, push the already struggling farmers into liquidation. We will look back at this period of time and call it...what? the year madness ruled? the loss of total common sense? Or maybe when Americans forgot that this was their country and their individual responability to safegaurd what others around the world are envious of. The shame is ours, but its our children who will pay.
Let me know what you think, please don´t just read this, but leave your comments and lets start the dialoge rolling. thank you. God bless all.
