If you are wondering how to organise a successful garage sale, it starts with simple planning. This article will give you 5 key steps you can take to ensure that the effort you put in pays off in the end.

Your first step in working on how to organise a successful garage sale is to look around the house for what you want to get rid of. You will want to give yourself time to go through all the rooms in your house and decide what is not worth keeping anymore. This can take several weeks to finish depending upon how busy your schedule is. Make sure that you finish this before you start step two.

The second step to a successful garage sale is to schedule a date for your garage sale. You will want to schedule it far enough in advance to allow you to place ads in the newspapers. Regular garage sale shoppers will look at these advertisements every week and this can help you increase your traffic flow tremendously. You can also talk with your neighbors when setting a date to see if they have anything to sell as well. If you can organise several families to have garage sales at the same time and put this in classified ads, this is a further boost to your traffic. Your ad should post a start time and an end time so that everyone knows clearly when the garage sale is and for how long.

The third step is to organise your goods. Put all related items together and then price them at a level that will realistically move your goods in a quick manner and at a fair price. You can even group items according to similar prices such as a $5 table or a $1 table. Placing toys out front can be an attraction to kids if families walk by. This can be a way that you may be able to attract more traffic with curious passer-by families.

The fourth step is to gather the right amount of change the day before. You do not want to have to turn away a potential sale simply because you did not have change for a particular bill. It is good to go to the bank the day before to get enough small bills and coin that you do not run out. If your garage sale starts early, you may want to assess your bills and coin situation at some point during the morning in case you need to make an emergency currency run before the bank closes.

The fifth step is to know when to quit. If you find that you have few items left, there is no point in continuing to hawk goods that will not sell. You can simply donate the few items left to charity and take a tax write-off if that is the case. The garage sale is meant to clear out the house while bringing in some money for your family.

These five steps on how to organise a successful garage sale should make yours a raging success. Your garage sale can be very effective if you give yourself enough time to organise it, get other families to participate, and get word out in the local community.

Most people find themselves struggling to find their latest bills or specific documents because they are not organised or know how to become organised. This article will give you basic steps you can take so that you know how to organise paperwork.

The first step can start with your mail. Many people receive a great deal of mail every single day. You can stack this mail in one corner and not touch it for several days which can make it overwhelming when you undertake the task of sorting and organising the mail. A good daily task is to go through the mail and open what needs to be opened and throw out or shred what is not needed. You can then divide the paperwork that needs to be kept into two different piles: immediate response and non-immediate response.

A good rule on thumb when working on how to organise your paperwork is that any mail that can be answered or finished in less than two or three minutes should deserve an immediate response. Anything else will be classified as a non-immediate response.

Be sure to set aside time on a weekly basis to go through everything that would fit in a non-immediate response. This will probably involve bills and any mail you need to respond to which exceed the two-three minute response window.

Have a specific area for your follow-up paperwork as well will be one of the most important tips in your plan on how to organise your paperwork. Many people will put their important papers in different areas so you are not consistent in your placement of papers. If you have a set spot every day to place paperwork, this will help you during your weekly time slot to get through everything quickly and efficiently.

If you have papers you must keep, it is good to have a filing system as well. This can be broken down by the companies to which the bills are paid or a particular category such as anything car-related goes in the car folder. You could have a file for all banking activities or one for all house activities such as repairs, insurance, etc. Have one central location for all of this and a good filing box usually is very inexpensive. It is one of the better purchases that you can make.

These are helpful tips that you should explain how to organise your paperwork. It simply comes down to having a system and following that system on a daily basis. This reduces the amount of paperwork you have so that what you do have is completely manageable.

When you are looking to declutter and organise your kitchen, you should first check to see what is needed. This will start with your pantry.

1. Check through all your foods to see what you should keep and not keep. Non-perishable foods can go bad and you may have foods that you intended to eat and never have. There may be some food that you want to give to your local charity.

2. You should then work on the refrigerator. Clean out the refrigerator and remove any items that are past their expiration date. Organise your refrigerator and freezer in an easy to remember method. This should mean that you have a particular shelf for fruits, a particular shelf for vegetables, a particular place for salad dressings, beverages, and leftovers. Then use a similar system for your freezer to keep it neat and tidy.

3. It is then time to move onto the kitchen. Go through all your plates, cooking items, pots and pans to determine what you need and what you never use. Take any items you cannot remember using in a long time and get rid of them by donating them or selling them at a garage sale. This will help you to declutter your kitchen.

4. To now organise the kitchen, you will want to set up specific areas for different themes.

o You should have a specific location for all your cleaning supplies.
o You should also have a specific location for all of your cooking supplies.
o Continue with this same trend around preparation of the food, storing the food, and the serving of the food.

This system of placement of all items around a particular theme means that you no longer have to hunt for a specific item all around the kitchen. Everything you will need for a particular activity such as cleaning up after dinner and storing food is easy to do since it is all in one specific location. This can help your family to remember where everything is and for guests to assist you when you cook a big meal in the house.

When you are organising, try to keep all items of a specific theme near others. Your food storage containers may want to be near your cleaning supplies because you will use both most times at the end of a meal because of cleaning and taking care of leftovers.

You can declutter and organise your kitchen very simply. It is about removing what is not used or out of date and then simply creating a system so that your kitchen is organised around major themes such as cleaning or food storage.

DeClutter Your Wardrobe

April 6th 2009 09:14
You may think that a cluttered wardrobe is only a problem for women. The fact is that even though women do tend to be a little more prone to a cluttered wardrobe, men and children can have the problem as well. The good news is that when you declutter your wardrobe, it will result in numerous benefits. You will know what items you have, it will be much easier to find what you are looking for, and it will contribute to the overall smartness of your home.

An easy way to start is to remove all of the items that you know you will not be wearing again. If a garment is in poor condition and unlikely to be repaired, simply dispose of it. You may also find many garments which are in good condition, but due to changing sizes or styles you are fairly certain you will not need them. You can take a step in decluttering your wardrobe and also benefitting others by giving the garments to a friend who would like to have them, or donate them to a charity.

Organise Photos and Memorabilia

April 6th 2009 09:01
Most people have many photos and memorabilia stashed in different parts of the house. It is always a task that will be accomplished at some vague point in the future. When you want to work on organising photos and memorabilia, hold yourself to a particular time slot when you will get the task started.

When you are working on organising photos and memorabilia, it is best to give yourself a single spot in which you can work on this task. Organising photos and memorabilia often is not a task that can be done in a single sitting. It is a very fun task that will take longer than you expect because the photos will bring out certain memories that you will enjoy reminiscing about. The single spot can also allow you to break the task into smaller, more manageable pieces simply because it is a task most people will put off for years.

The Benefits of Clutter Clearing

March 2nd 2009 01:58
Perhaps when you were a child your parents told you that neatness counts. It was true then, and it is true now, for some of the same reasons and more.

A clutterfree, organised living space is the healthiest environment. Not only is it cleaner, it is more psychologically healthy. Living amidst clutter has an effect on the mind and the emotions, and the effect is not a positive one. If you are constantly distracted by a messy environment, it reduces your ability to think as clearly as you could in a neat environment. Clutter also makes one feel stressed, and often even depressed. When you set yourself to the task of clutter clearing, it will eliminate these problems, increasing your ability to focus clearly and improving your mood.
