It is a well known fact that for managers in Spanish football it is hard to impress. Some managers will even surpass the expectations of the board but still find themselves part of the unemployment figures at the end of the season. What Australia should do is take advantage of this and consider Manuel Jimenez as a replacement for Pim Verbeek. Verbeek has recently announced that he will quit his role as coach for the socceroos after the world cup and we believe here at Aussie Football Watch, that Jimenez would be a great replacement.
Manuel Jimenez has recently been sacked as the coach of Spanish outfit Sevilla due to some recent poor results. He brought Sevilla from being a mid-table team, to coming third in the spanish la liga in the 2008/09 season (winning them a champions league spot). We would love the likes of Jose Mourinho or Arsene Wenger but let's be realistic.
Everyone has an opinion of what they want their Socceroos squad to be. Now it's time for Aussie Football Watch to choose their squad. Mark Shwarzer is an obvious choice for goals. In defence we would choose Lucas Neil, Craig Moore, Scott Chipperfield and Rhys Williams. As two defensive midfielders there would be Luke Wilkshire and Vince Grella. Attacking Midfielders would include Tim Cahill, Brett Emerton and Mark Bresciano. The lone striker would of course be Harry Kewell.
It would look something like this:
Schwarzer
Williams Neil Moore Chippers
Wilkshire Grella
Emerton Cahill Bresciano
Kewell
Every week I read articles claiming who the next regular Socceroos will be. They range from names such as Mile Jedinak, Nikita Rukavytsya, Nicky Carle and Rhys Williams. All these boys have their moments but they never seem to live up to the so-called ‘Golden Generation’ of Harry Kewell, Mark Viduka and Brett Emerton.
Maybe if Jedinak stays consistent then he will definitely be an asset. Maybe if Ruka gets the right training and learns to use his speed and pace to the outmost advantage. Maybe if Carle and Williams always receive a starting 11 spot for their club. There seems to be a lot of ‘maybes’ that play on fans’ minds and leads them believe that the future of the Socceroos seems quite dark. One particular comment that always is passed around is “who is going to play left back once Chipperfield has retired???”. Well to bring a bit of light to the darkness, I have been researching a Socceroos hopeful named Jason Davidson.”
Jason Davidson (18) has been a stand out recently playing left back at Portuguese outfit Pacos de Ferreira. He has made three appearances, 2 of which were against football giants Benfica and FC Porto. Sources say he defended outstanding, and prevented a couple of Argentine stars from scoring.
“The learning curve got a lot steeper yesterday - Argentine superstars Javier Saviola and Angel de Maria (the latter certain to be a key figure in this year's World Cup) were his direct opponents.
'I had to mark both of them, so it was a good test, that's for sure,'' Davidson said,’ “. (smh.com.au)
