Christmas Cheer Cringing
December 28th 2008 05:17
I trust you all had a happy Christmas, or Hannukah, and will have a safe and lucky New Year's Eve! Following is my contribution to the Christmas spirit; done in my slightly obsessive compulsive way, using poetic devices, in particular alliteration, that being the same sound or letter at the beginning of words within the same line of verse, or sentence. I also employed a liberal dose of assonance, that being the end syllable sounding the same; here I have used identical syllables at the end of each verse line, a most unusual occurrence in my style of writing, usually the reserved domain of doggerel poets, however, I felt the sub-text demanded it be so.
I hope you enjoy my prosaic, stylised yet sarcastic poetry, all pummelled with alliteration!

Christmas Cheer Cringing
Christmas cheer cringing crinkling,
cadging clergy cattle caterwauling,
cackling cuckolds caught carousing,
conceited christians cryptically condescending.
callow chaps’ callous careering,
careless crusaders collision causing,
collateral carnage carrion carrying,
causes clotted cloy crying.
courtly cats’ capers clambering,
‘cross cafe ceilings cartwheeling,
crazily crash crockery cracking,
cold crab caesars containing.
collecting crowds corner covering,
catching colluding carollers crooning,
churlish choristers covertly crunching,
canorous cantatas Christmas carolling.
