Paris pumps gas

I think the time has come for me to embrace the latest trend in automobiles.....the diesel vehicle.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not after a 4wd......but another small car to replace my ageing Proton Satria (7.5 years old and counting).

Perhaps its the frustration with continually high petrol prices.....(and Caltex/BP/Woolies....dont try and tell me you're making hardly any profit....because the ACCC is on to you....) or just the desire to do something different..

but damn it...I want a diesel....!

I like the VW Golf 2.0 TDI.....and I hear there's a new 1 series BMW (all I can afford from their range) with a diesel engine.....but here's the BIG question....is a diesel car really more economical?

Let's weigh it up.

PROS
- drive further on the same size tank as a petrol engine so fewer stops at the servo
- ability to use bio-diesel fuel (10% methanol/vegetable oil blend)

CONS
- diesel cars cost more up front (I'm talking $2500 as a starting figure)
- diesel fuel costs more at the bowser (somewhere between 5 and 20 cents a litre more than petrol)
- diesel smells when you get it on your hands (so wear gloves when filling up!)

Now, if you manage to find someone who'll sell you bio-diesel fuel or you're one of those types who doesn't mind getting their hands dirty and mixing your own at home......well OK thats a huge cost saving and if I had a supply of bio-diesel at my fingertips than I'd be first in line at the VW dealership tomorrow.....

but the fact is...backyard dealers of bio-diesel are hard to come by......and thanks to the fuel tax most states levy on us.....even if they brought it to a servo near you...it'd cost the same as regular fuels......

So, what's my decision?

Its all too hard....I think I'll just stick with my petrol Proton for now....though that little Golf looks pretty sexy........hmmmmmmm

Not all people like snakes.......duh

December 4th 2006 00:14

I was just going about my business, working this past weekend in my role as a Promotions driver / announcer for a local radio station, when some random guy with a penchant for reptiles decided to ruin it all......

I know I'm not the only one for whom an up close and personal encounter with a snake is a terrifying nightmare......you know, I wouldn't mind losing a leg to a shark but there's something about snakes that just scares me like nothing else.....

Maybe its that Dad put a red bellied black snake he'd just killed into the foundation concrete of my soon to be bedroom as a young child....or the fact that they bite....and kill.....(yes, I know...not all of them do)......or just that they're damn scary to some of us....

All I know is that its rude to invade one's personal space...whether you have an 8 metre python around your neck or not....manners people!

So here I am this past Saturday, trying to give away freebies to hordes of desperate people who aren't happy with just a drink....but just keep standing around waiting for more.......

AND I turn around from the back of the truck to the head of a HUGE snake literally 15 cm from my face......

..
..
..

Yes I was there to promote the opening of a new pet store...great store too.....but did anyone ask me if i wanted to watch my life flash before my lives.....NO

So there I am....I let out an ear-piercing scream...and start to cry uncontrollably....
so not cool I hear you say.........well you try coming face to face with the inspiration for the House of Slitheren and get back to me?

So this guy obviously doesn't realise that some people have phobias...some people not only don't like snakes, they're #%!& scared of them......

Even worse though...the freaky people who still stand there demanding free stuff while I have tears rolling down my face and my whole body is shaking.....shame on you desperate souls who cant see that I've just endured the most terrifying experience to date in my life and all in front of a bunch of people who couldn't be bothered to spend a dollar on a packet of chips at the shop......

There...I feel much better now that i have managed to get that out.

Thanks however to the handful of normal earthlings who felt for me....and said rather loudly, "dude...you've got to learn that not all people like reptiles"........

Yeah. Not all people like reptiles. Even fewer people actually want one as a pet. If they do.....at least they know that hey...it can roam around their house.....just not mine....

Here: PROOF humans on the whole are afraid of snakes.....

(Fear of Snakes, Spiders Rooted in Evolution, Study Finds

"Aaaaaaaahhhh!!!!!" The mere sight of a snake or spider strikes terror in the hearts of millions of people.

A new study suggests that such fear has been shaped by evolution, stretching back to a time when early mammals had to survive and breed in an environment dominated by reptiles, some of which were deadly. )

Losing Weight Makes you Cranky

November 27th 2006 23:16
Jen in hotpants

Being one of those women for whom being a size 10....or 12...or ?..does not come naturally....I am pretty well versed in the art of dieting.

I've been to a naturopath...lasted 3 weeks with just fruit and vege detox.....

I've been to Weight Watchers...once or twice....sometimes I stuck with it....other times it was all too hard....

and if there's anything I have learned in my attempts to look like Jennifer Aniston anytime in the last decade....its that losing weight makes you cranky......

I probably wouldn't have noticed so much...or cared...if it wasn't brought to my attention by my partner....who it seems bears the brunt of my bad moods! Why is it that depriving yourself of something which you could have yesterday...or last week....makes you so conscious of how good it tasted last time you had it?

It could be a piece of cardboard...if everyone else was eating it and raving about it....I'd have wanted to sink my teeth into it too....and knowing I couldn't made me very difficult to be around.....

I start behaving like a petulant child....."well she's having one...why can't I? or "don't worry....I'll just have my rice crackers...no, really, you eat it...I'm NOT JEALOUS at all....."

Hey I'm not saying that I'm pleasant to be around 24/7 even when I am eating whatever feels/tastes good at the time.....but dieting brings out my bad side......my evil twin....my deprived inner child.....my chocolate for breakfast alter-ego!

Still, it could be worse.....I could live in Africa....where any piece of food would probably bring tears of joy.....not pain....

but I'm not and man its so hard to resist chips, chocolate, cinnamon donuts, candy...and they're just the foods I like that start with C!..... Happy dieting......I am about to go another round....better warn Brian!

Hi...I have just done the same thing?

How do I shift my most recent post to become my second post under my original blog? Somehow I ended up starting a new blog called the same name and placing my new post there...instead of under the other one...?

Help?
