My Cover Letter to Foxtel

September 20th 2006 11:18
How y'all doin
I haven't posted in a while and I am pretty tired, so here's something you can have a read of.

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am the perfect candidate for the vacancy regarding the position of promo producer. I love movies, have good communication skills, and have an excellent eye for creativity, both in the visual and written aspect

I have a number of friends who have traveled abroad (Indonesia and Vietnam) in vain attempts to find similar work, in both a promo producing and commercial capacity. I prefer to stay, hoping that my country of birth shows its larrikin spirit in recognizing the pure creativity of a battler, for creativity stems from the deprived. Was Michelangelo poor do I ask?

Three years of experience is just a number. I’ll give you a better one. Five. That’s right. It’ll only take five minutes to watch my DVD of promos that should have accompanied this cover letter. If this is not the case, my dreams of grandeur are forever lost through the actions of a tipsy postal worker.

The promos were developed with the use of Sony Vegas software, which I have a number of years experience amongst others. I am also a capable writer, having written various shorts and articles regarding sport at britishboxing.net. My main love though is movies. I eat, sleep and smell them. Sometimes at night, when it’s quiet enough, I hear voices. Voices from the classics of old to the rip snorting, smash bang, CGI clustered movies of new. Did someone say Schizophrenia?

I am energetic, brash, hungry, and polite and not all in that order. When I am editing, time flies so I must enjoy it. If you want to hire someone that brings a vibrant attitude to something he loves doing whilst conforming to the specifications of the corporate engine, then hire me. If you want to hire your average, run of the mill pencil pusher, whose greatest asset is passing mundane comments regarding the previous day’s episode of Home and Away around the water cooler, then hire the next guy.

Yours Faithfully

Chris Ibrahim

PS “I am Queen’s Boulevard.” (Vinnie Chase from Entourage)

Seeing as how this is supposed to a boxing blog, did anyone catch Barrera taking Juarez to school? Pretty boring though.

TITO OR THE PRETTY BOY?

September 6th 2006 00:21
The biggest mainstream boxing star outside of Mike Tyson, Oscar De La Hoya, has decided he will resume his boxing career inside the ring, on March 5 of next year. The “Golden Boy” has revealed he will face one of a possible two opponents, a rematch with Trinidad, or a fight against pound for pound superstar, Floyd Mayweather Jnr.

The Trinidad rematch brings about a chance of redemption for Oscar. It also brings about an opportunity to eradicate the absurd “chicken” moniker labeled upon him in reference to his coasting of the championship rounds in their first bout. Many boxing fans and media alike believe that Oscar is already one up on Tito, though success in a rematch would remove any bitterness or controversy that may still linger.

Pound for pound ace, Floyd Mayweather Jnr, may be Oscar’s other partner for the big dance in March. He brings youth, exuberance, arrogance, and an abundance of speed to the table. A multidivisional champion, not unlike Oscar, Floyd is currently on top of his game and remarkably remains undefeated.

A key facet that is sure to stir up emotions if the fight transpires is the fact that Floyds’ father, Mayweather Snr, is currently training Oscar De La Hoya. It is also a well known fact that father and son are not on the best of terms. However, in the strange world of boxing, respect and adoration can come from animosity, much like the embrace of two combatants after 12 rounds of war. One thing is for certain, though, I look forward to Mayweather Snr’s pre fight poetry antics.

Will Oscar’s possible farewell bout be a golden one? Will we hear the “Tito” chants lift an arena again? Or will the pretty boy paint yet another pretty picture on a canvas we’ve seen him create masterpieces on before. All I know is that March 5 can’t come quick enough.

Former 140 pound king, Kostya Tszyu hasn’t fought in nearly 2 years now, though the Russian born fighter has not officially retired. At 36 years of age, the man has provided many thrills in the square ring, but as the old saying goes, time waits for no man.

After the Hatton bout, my immediate thoughts were for Tszyu to rematch Hatton in the States, with an officiator like Jay Nady, who would hinder any form of standing Brazilian Jujitsu. Not to take anything away from Ricky’s achievement, but the fight was an ugly one.

Though now, with Tszyu’s inactivity, and numerous business ventures, would a return to the ring be a successful one. Tszyu has recently stated that he may return if a certain bout interests him, so let us examine some options.

Ricky Hatton is an obvious choice considering he handed Tszyu one of his few defeats. Tszyu may have to climb the weight ladder, as Hatton’ last bout against Luis Collazo was fought at the 147 pound division.

Floyd Mayweather Jr, generally regarded as the pound for pound king, would also be an enticing opponent for Tszyu. He is also campaigning nowadays in the welterweight division, and Tszyus’ defeat of his uncle Roger would only add spice to the mix. It’s Floyd’s speed versus Kostya’s power in this one.

A fight with Jose Luis Castillo would be a war. Castillo, having embarrassingly not made the weight in his proposed third bout with Corrales, plans on moving up to the 140 pound ranks. If Tszyu can still make the weight, this one could easily fit into the fight of the year type mould.

There are many other fights out there that I haven’t mentioned, but whatever option Tszyu takes, it can’t take away from what has been a remarkable career. From Serov to Sydney, Tszyu has come a long way, and is sure to pull no punches in whatever avenues he pursues.
