The Next Big Thing Part 2!

August 27th 2008 11:44
This is a little post i like to call The Next Big Thing
Where i will look at all the players on each of the 16 AFL clubs lists and try to reconise the next big thing for the club. They must be under 21 years of age and mostly undiscovered yet as an AFL footballer.
I will go in alphabetical order which each of the clubs. This weeks club is Brisbane.

BRISBANE:
Like most other clubs braisbane have started over the last couple of years. Leigh Matthews knows what he's doing with the club and even though they are sort of rebuilding stage they still could have almost and probably should've made finals this season. However there list is ever improving and should make the finals next year as their players get older and more experienced.

LACHIE HENDERSON:
Last years pick 8 in the draft as the Lions first pick overall. Tall Key position player could become anything if the Lions give him time to develop. Can play either end of the ground though i think he would do better as a foward even thouugh they dont need another forward. Great strong marking hands as we have only just seen breifely in th NAB Cup an parts of this year, so mayb he really is the next big thing for the Brisbane Lions in the near future.

OTHER POSSIBLE BIG THINGS:
JAMES HAWKSLEY:
Tall, quick midfielder with a slight build who can win his own ball. Definately one to whach in the future, but needs to work on his build of course.

I will go in alphabetical order which each of the clubs starting with Adelaide this week!

ADELAIDE:
They now have started recruiting younger players with alot of the older ones either retireing or almost there which is definately exciting for the crows fans and amazingly there still experienced enough to make the finals this year and beyound. However the player that could potentially be the next big thing for their club is...
DAVID MACKAY:
I like the way he plays he is small but looks tough still a bit underdeveloped judging by his size of 180cm and being only 72kg. He is quick midfielder who has a long penetrating kick when he wants to be only debuted this seaso so still plenty of time for him to become the player both adelaide and i hope he can be, only 20 years old.

OTHER POSSIBLE BIG THINGS:
JAMES SELLAR:
Very tall forward or even a ruckman. Has a massive vertical leap and looks like he could be the answer to the likes of a CHF but has been troubled with injury in the past but the potential is there

Best and Fairest winners in 2008! Part 5

February 13th 2008 10:16
St.Killda: Nick Riewoldt
Who else is going to take the B&F award off Riewoldt. Sure there are alot off fantastic mplayers down at moorrabin but none of them can compare to the incredible abilities of this tall, strong and super skilled, super fit center half forward. He is about to take the captaincy one handed and still have that extra hand to tare apart opposition defences. You could ask as many people as u want about who is going to win the award and i rekon almost all of them will say this name... Riewoldt!

Sydney: Adam Goodes
The 2x brownlow medalist, 2x best and fairest winner, and 2x All-Australian is a great bet to place on the B&F in 2008. The tall midfeilder is still at his best even though he is turning 28 in 08. So he is still young enough to win it and the team is still a very good team so maybe Goodes will again come out with a sensational season.

West Coast: Daniel Kerr
Though he has just done a hammy i still think Kerr is the prime choice for the B&F. There is no more Judd or Cousins so that means that Kerr will have to step up even more (if possible) and take hold of a team that looks like it could take the wrong direction, quickly. He will have to contest with the likes of Priddis who will take a midfeild postition this season and add a bit of relief for him but Priddis just mite win the B&F himself. But whatch out everyone Kerr mite just go one better in 08.

Wetsern Bulldogs: Daniel Cross
Cross had a massive blow to his great 05 and 06 seasons with a knee injury ruining his run in 2007. Cross will be eager to make amenns in 08 and right when the dogs need him too.
This underated ball winner could take his game to a higher level this season if he gets over the injury and fast. He will contest the award with lthe likes of Cooney and Last years winner Lake (formally known as Harris). But i truly beleive Cross can become an even better player for the Dogs in 2008!

Best and Fairest winners in 2008! Part 4

February 12th 2008 10:43
Kangeroos: Daniel Wells
Wells has been dubbed a future best and fairest winner for the last 3 years and i think it's just about his time to shine. The speedy midfeilder has had some great seasons behind him and i think its time he had to step up if the roos are trying to win a premiership over the couple of seasons. One of the things i beleive he needs to improve on is his ability to take the opponents on and run with the ball, he just doesn't do it enough. We all know he can do it and turn a game on its head and he needs to get more of the ball too.

Best and Fairest winners in 2008! Part 3

February 12th 2008 06:08
Essendon: Jobe Watson
I think Jobe Watson is a bit of a gamble for the B&F this season but he wins alot of the ball and he is only 24 this year so he is a long shot but who knows, this year may just be his year. Things he needs to improve on are his disposal efficiency and his decision making. He may have to comtend with players like Scott Lucas (again this year), Brent Stanton (who is also a good bet) and even Dustin Fletcher but i beleive he has the goods to go all the way this year for the bombas!

Best and Fairest winners in 2008! Part 2

February 10th 2008 10:34
Adelaide: Scott Thompson
One of the leaders in the group, this extreamly damaging midfeilder with incredible ball winning skills is a sort of a long shot to win the B&F for the crows in 08 but when he is at the top of his game he can win matches and when the crows are up and running you'll know Thompson will be there contributing well so ther is no reason why can't he win it in 2008 if the crows can string a couple of matches together.

Who would you pick part 2

December 10th 2006 06:27
Now who would you pick for next years brownlow medal?
We've already covered players like Pavlich, Judd and brisbane big man Jonothan Brown but there is still many other players that could take out the biggest individual medal in the AFL.

November 24th 2006 11:48
Who would you pick for the Brownlow next year?
Its the question that all punters want to get right next year and who would you pick.
Would you pick Chris Judd who dominance in the midfeild continiued this year earning him all-australia honours and seeing him to top 3 in the brownlow this year

How Much Impact Will It Be?

November 17th 2006 10:26
This years draft is expected to be the best draft since the 2001 draft or maybe even the biggest and best draft ever.
Some names we have already taken in as potential stars are the likes of Gibbs, Gumbleton, Hanson, Luenberger and even Selwood, Jetta and Thorp aswell as the Brown brothers Nathan and Mitchell. These are players all expected to be taken well within the top 10 or 20 and we are probably expecting them to start their AFL careers next year and probably get NAB rising star nominations and maybe even win the award, we are also probably expecting some of these players to become future captains of their chosen clubs.
But the real question is that is this draft going to be the best draft ever seen, I mean we have had some great drafts in the past like the 2001 draft and the just recently seen 2004 draft where players are just starting to show off their talents. But we have also seen some really bad drafts aswell but is it all going to change from now on so lets hope that we see some great talent come out of the next few drafts to come and we see some really good careers too

Do u think Mark Williams is worth signing on this year aswell. I beleive he could fire up again like he did in 05, 06 and in his 4 games last season. What are your thoughts?

"AFL Kid"

I dont like Staker as a midfeilder i would rather him as a Key forward. After all last season the Eagles had alot of trouble scoring goals when Hansen was injured or when Lynch wasn't up and running like he was in 2006. So i beleive Staker could be the answer to their scoring problems in 2008.

I hope soo
Hawks are on the rise baby!!!

Anytime Sports Inider

You'll never see Alistair Clarkson complaining like these coaches do!!
Infact all coaches should take a good look at Al Clarkson because he doesn't care how much effect the NAB Cup will have on the players or how the rule changes are a load of crap (because they are) all he wants to do is coach a falling out crap team of '04 into a premiership cream team in maybe as early as next year!!!

Check out new post from urs truly on AFL Opinion about the prediction of the 08 B&F winners!!!

I doubt that Edwards would have much of an this year, and he is with a struggling team which will limit his impact even more.
I think that Xavier Ellis will be a good midfeild option (if that's where he's played this year) or Jordan Lewis but i think he will cost a bit more then both Edwards and Ellis combined!

Too right about Ellis, he is going to be great player in the future. Ithought more of Midfeilder/goalkicker though

check out afl opinion for new posts on the 08 Best and Fairest winners and why
