Freelance Online Forum Update

February 8th 2010 23:56
In August 2009 I decided that the best way forward for Freelanceonlinework.com was to incorporate a forum feature. Despite several attempts to get it running via Orble, I hit a brick wall. No response from Support or involvement from support on my blog posts. I always stick to my ideas if I think they will be beneficial. So I have decided to throw caution to the wind and create my own forum or discussion board. I have registered the Domain name and have invested in enough Server space.

This doesn't mean I am leaving freelanceonlinework.com, to the contrary. I intend to use this blog as the official blog of my new forum. There are several reasons why but the main two are:

1) I love the community aspect of Orble, I have met some great people here who I would like onboard.

2) I really believe this forum can take Orble to the next level, that's why I've been trying for so long to get it started. Orble.com currently has a Quantcast ranking of 47,552, this forum will help improve the ranking to under 1,000.

Last night Joe and Olly were confirmed as the final two on Britain's XFactor. Unfortunately Stacey went out of the competition 3rd. She really did nothing wrong, she has definately got a great singing career in front of her. Here are the highlights of last night's show:

Joe McElderry: Dance With My Father

Olly Murs: Fool In Love

Stacey & Michael Buble: Feeling Good

Tonight's show was really too close to call, with both men being fantastic singers. Olly chose to sing "Twist and Shout" and Joe opted for "Don't stop believing"

Both contestants then went on to sing "The Climb" originally made famous by Miley Cyrus. Olly sang totally beyond how good he had already sang in previous rounds and that could really have been the point where he deservedly won. However Joe completely raised the bar with his rendition of the same song. The young man from south shields absolutely nailed it.

Both contestants deserved to win but Joes vocal range won people's votes.

Early in the programme the Mayor of south shields said "You are a winner and you're gonna win joe", I just hope he had a tenner on it.

Videos to come soon

Adding Twitter and Facebook to your blog

December 11th 2009 08:14
Here is an easy way to connect your Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn accounts to your Orble blog. Simply sign up for a free account at Xeesm (pronounced "See Sam".) (not affiliate link)

Click the sign up on the left hand side of the screen to create your account. When creating your account, make sure you pick a name that matches what you already do online. Once you have created your account it is time to personalise it.

Now it's time to add a photo and create a short bio (max250 characters). Next it's time to add all your social networks. There are over 100 to choose from and you can also add a normal website or blog. The Social Networks available include: Facebook, Myspace, Bebo, Twitter, Youtube, Reddit and a host of other social networking or bookmarking sites.

The benefit is that you no longer have to share all your links, you can now just link from one place to all your social networks. I already use my xeesm.com link on my Twitter account and the amount of connections I make is very good.
Xeesm.com Control Panel

Also, if you have a blog you can copy and paste the html code widget directly in the place you want it and connections to all your social connections can be viewed. You do this by opening Profile Manager and then clicking the button at the bottom of the page labelled "Show Xeesm embed code". The code displayed is your unique Xeesm widget, simply copy and paste onto your blog.

Give it a try and let me know how you get on

All The Best

Chris

October 11th 2009 19:44
Hi All,

I made a decision to open a forum on this site about 2 months ago, however forum posts don't seem to be available. Here is a copy of my post to writers forum( which is still awaiting moderation after 59 days), so I have to post to blog

Given the recent recession and tough financial times I have decided to launch a forum for connecting Employers with Freelance Workers. This service will be hosted on my FreelanceOnlineWork.com blog and will be free for all users.
This discussion board will contain sections for Employers to post Freelance Vacancies and sections for Freelance workers to post links to their Website or Business Card.
There will be sections for the following freelancers

You know what it's like, you sit there waiting for just the right Poker hand.. Then yes, you finally get it and then you end up getting beat on the river. Well the good news is that it can happen to anyone, here are a couple of videos to prove it.

They contain swearing(cursing), so are not suitable for children

I am delighted to be given the chance to expand this blog, I have been a reader for a long time and I hope that I can build on Lynne Smythe's success. I have always found her writing very good and she has always been approachable.

My aim is to develop this blog from a freelance writer's blog, to a blog that helps all freelancers. I will also cut down on the external linking to other writing sites, because after all an Orble blog should be an entity in itself, and not just a bookmarking opportunity

Totally agree Ruby,

I can't see why the majority of people secretly want the worst to have happened. The same happened with Heath Ledgers death and Micheal Jacksons. It must make it even harder for their families to cope with sudden loss. My thoughts are with her family..

Hi Amy,

I spent a few years recruiting people for a major company, and if you don't mind I would love to see your cover letter. If you want me to have a look PM me and I will send my email address, for you to send a copy.

I don't want to suggest changes to your resume, because I am from the UK and things are different here. Feel free to send a copy just in-case I can hopefully give you ideas.

Katyzzz made a very good point about selling yourself, that's the secret. It's really essential that you get another job fast and I am happy to help.

Take Care

on The 5 Greatest Sports Stars Ever

Hi MNG,

Great question here are mine:

1 Ali 3 times world heavyweight champ and more importantly prepared to give up his belt because he didn't agree with war in Vietnam.
2 George Foreman oldest ever world champ(beating time gives us all hope)
3 Jesse Owens for standing up to Hitler
4 Micheal Johnson for achieving times that were thought impossible
5 Isaya O'Leporu and five other Masai villagers( Who ran the London marathon and raised 100,000 pound to bring clear water to their rural village, a village no other villager had left before)

All Champions seem to have ideals, which teach the rest of us.

Thank-you for a good laugh

They were some great examples, I especially liked the Facebook one. I can't believe some people are daft enough to do that.

Chris

Yes Jon the RSS feed looks fine, but My blog log doesn't pick it up. Could it be a problem with them?

Chris

PS I am away to St Kilda tomorrow for 5 days, if you respond and I don't answer it's because I can't.

Sorry I should have explained that it is my Orble feed that doesn't seem to be updating. I have tried putting my feed address elsewhere, but no new feeds have come through.

Thank-you in advance

Chris

Hi Anon,

This is to protect the innocent minors, and their future, so anything that may lead to their identification (whether their name or others involved) should and legally must, not be used in the public arena.

Did you read my post? It's just that baby P had already been brutally killed and you are concerned about his future?
