Chris Bryan signs with the Packers
March 21st 2010 12:23
Chris Bryan has finally been signed by an NFL side to punt, he signs with the Green Bay Packers, the former Collingwood and Carlton ruckman was reportedly close to signing a contract with someone in early January, but now it's set in stone. Bryan has signed a 3 year non-guaranteed contract, he will be competing for the punter position with another recruit Tim Masthay. The two are going to go head to head in the Green Bay August training camp, should the former AFL star win a contract with the Packers he will join two other former AFL stars, former Collingwood and North Melbourne forward Saverio Rocca, who is currently a punter with the Philadelphia Eagles, and former Geelong Captain and current Arizona punter Ben Graham.
They are not the only Australians in the NFL, Dallas Cowbays' Mat McBriar who also played football, but not in the AFL was recruited to Dallas via the Univeristy of Hawaii. As reported in my other sports blog on Chris Bryan he was recruited via the Nathan Chapman's Prokick Australia program. Chapman, the former Brisbane and Hawthron player helps Australians who are looking to become a player at either NFL or College level as punters, or kickers.
According to the program, and USFootynews.com the progam has placed 3 students to US colleges with full scholarships, and a player to Arena Football, and with Bryan signing a student with the program to the NFL.
