We are all inventors, each sailing out on a voyage of discovery, guided each by a private chart, of which there is no duplicate. The world is all gates, all opportunities.
Ralph Waldo Emerson
We truly are all inventors of our own lives on an incredibly journey. I think all of us when we are growing up are encouraged to dream being told that, "You can be anything that you want to be, if you set your mind to it." I believe this is so true.
You really do get out of any situation exactly what you put into it. I also believe that there is no such thing as being too old to still be what you want to be, learn what you've always wanted to learn, strive for what you have always wanted to accomplish.
Is it your time? The world is all gates, and the opportunities, all yours.
For years now the LDS church has been focusing on connecting faiths and building bridges to help affect our world for the cause and love of Jesus Christ. This is something that I am committed to and am passionate about, but what happens when neither side refuses to bend.
I have been in more than one situation where, rather than talk about how we can affect the world together for Christ, a Christian friend or acquaintance would rather argue about whether we believe in the same Jesus. Luckily we live in a nation where we are able to worship freely however we wish. We are also a nation that was founded on uniting many cultures and backgrounds with one voice. "One nation, under God", sound familiar? So why spend all this time arguing when we could be practicing what America is know for?
This week the Associated Press printed a story about the rift that has been created between Christians and Mormons because of doctrinal differences. I wont go into too huge of detail of the article because I would rather focus on the response by Elder Ballard. A quote (taken in context from the Deseret News) shows Ballard stating:
"We're not Catholic and we're not Protestant, but we are the New Testament Church that's been restored because we believe it was lost after the times of Christ and his apostles and was required to be restored through a prophet," he said. "Think in terms of Abraham and Moses . . . Joseph Smith to us is just the Moses of our day."
This is where I got inspiration for my thought for the day. I loved the fact that he refers to Joseph Smith as the Moses of our day. When you think about this it is so true. God took a boy who really had no idea what he was doing, had no abilities to start a million member church, and through the power of our heavenly father restored the Gospel.
I think of what it must have been to be like Moses. God chooses you to lead an entire people out of captivity...I just can't imagine what that would feel like to be ripped out of your comfort zone and have a call put on your life, that at the time of being called required skills and abilities that you just don't have.
I really believe that we are called to be like Joseph and Moses. Yes, we may not feel that we have the skills and abilities to lead a generation of people out of the captivity of hurt, pain, loneliness, sin, pornography, suicidal thoughts, and so much more...but that is when it is our heavenly father through his his authority empowers us to have the ability and the strength to move mountains or part the seas.
So are you ready? Are you ready to be the Moses or Joseph Smith of this day and our generation?
I truly honestly feel that one of the greatest part of history is quotes. The words that have passed out of the mouths of our forefathers, writers, family, friends, and leaders have some of the greatest effects on us.
Through this blog I hope to provide a daily quote as well as a background story or an inspirational story of someone who has been affected by that quote. Let's learn from the past together while gaining a greater understanding of our selves.
Sorry everyone for the long wait between posts. I have been on vacation for the last month or so and then have spent a lot of time deciding which blogs I want to really focus my time on to keep my work informative and more than just skin deep. After really spending time in thought on this I decided to keep drinksound a live but let my other blogs go.
I can't always guarantee that I'll be able to post daily, but I will try my best

So Im sitting here in my favorite coffee house (which happens to be attached to a concert haul) and am waiting for the doors to open for a concert I've been looking forward to for awhile (Emery with The Almost), and it's flooding back all my memories of working in the music industry. I actually worked with a promoter on one of Emery's first concerts so seeing them now after they have gotten so huge is just like a time warp just with more lighting and better quality sound system. Ok, so I have decided that I am obsessed with harmony. Maybe that's what I have gone over the top Musical crazy lately. Something about sitting in a theater and hearing "One More Day" from Les Miserable belted full of harmonies in your face...just amazing! Or some beautifully sad ballad that just rips your heart out with these minor chords. I don't know what it is but a soloist can get me going but when I hear just thick chords it just takes me to another place. That place where you get those goose bumps all over your arm and even tears can well up in your eyes as the sound envelops the whole inside of your head.
There is nothing better than that...nothing.
