Charlie & Chloe

I haven't had a lot of time over the last year to update PicMad with any photos, but that doesn't mean I haven't been taking any!

Here are some of my favourite shots of our new puppies Charlie and Chloe. I find Chalie is quite easy to shoot but Chloe is a bit more of a challenge because she scoots around so quickly.

I'm looking to post reasonably often over the next few months (part of a new year's resolution), so hopefully you'll be seeing more from me, and I'll be seeing more from you.

As always, you can upload your own photos to this blog by clicking on the link at the left. You are welcome to comment and upload as much as you like, don't be shy!

Melbourne - Chris

The weather at the Melbourne Formula 1 this year was hot and dry, but perfect for taking photos.

The racetrack wasn't very camera friendly, however the rest of the city was. Here are the shots I took when I spent a weekend down there earlier this year...

Curious Lizard - Chris

This water dragon has been foraging around our backyard for the past few days so I decided to get the camera out and take a few snaps. Surprisingly, he wasn't afraid of the camera and let me get right up close which allowed me to focus on the detail of his scales.

Buderim Waterfall - Chris

Apologies for not posting anything for five days, but I have been busy shifting furniture and painting and I haven't had the chance to get the camera out.

Here's a shot I took last year while walking through Buderim Rainforest in the Sunshine Coast hinterland. It was a great walk and there are plenty of photo op's along the way. However, as with any rainforest, it is quite dark under the canopy so clear photos sometimes aren't achievable

As I've been sifting through my photos I've realised how many animal shots I've taken.

The RSPCA in Brisbane has a programme where families can temporarily foster young puppies and kittens to take care of them during their first developing weeks. It takes a load off the carers at the RSPCA as baby animals require a fair amount of time and attention

Tasmania - Chris

Last September I went to Hobart and we drove up through to Launceston and then back down the east coast. It was great to see the unspoilt landscapes on offer throughout the regions -- Tasmania has done well to preserve its natural surroundings.

Lucky for us there was still snow on Mt Wellington (Hobart) down to 300m. This was extremely rare for that time of year and it was amazing to see everything covered in white, even though it was nearly summer

Aussie Backyard - Chris

The weather here in Brisbane has been overcast and rainy for at least the last month, bringing with it some much needed rain to our dry soil and empty dams.

I set my SLR's white balance to overcast and found it produced some really rich colours, especially greens and browns

Excellent. I like the use of lines in the first and third (the fence and the house), and the different angles you have pointed the camera.

Have you got any more?

Thanks Katy! The Flinders St shot is my fav as well.

I thought about cropping the last one down to just include the platform, but I liked the signs on the buildings in the background so I kept them in. It's so typically Melbourne!

Thanks for commenting.

Great photos Katy!

Love the black and white, and the grainy shots, especially of the homeless man, definitely re-create the mood of the depression.

Thanks James.

All natural light. It was fairly late in the afternoon and the sun was bright on his back which was perfect for bringing out his green and yellow scales.

These are really nice, James. I really like the last one, it's nicely framed with the twigs on either side.

What is it you're not happy with? Is it the colours? In my experience the digital Canons tend to give a very natural (some might say dull-ish) representation of colour, especially outdoors. Have you ever tried a poliariser?

Do you think the exhibition would be a heap of photos taken with the lens cap still on??? .....

OK now I'm ashamed that I've made a joke about it. In reality they're probably beautiful photos.
