Girlie pass the parcel

November 15th 2006 01:43
Are 10 year old's too old to play pass the parcel?

No.

My daughter turned 10 on the weekend and she played pass the parcel with her friends. To make it age appropriate and fun I put a "girle" gift under each layer. A lip gloss, hair ties, hair band, hair clips, nail polish. The main prize was a gold toilet bag.

Shop at Kmart or Big W and you can buy these gifts for a reasonable price.

They Loved It!!! The giggles, anticipation and "oh let me see what you got?" were all fun.

Lolly bags

October 19th 2006 04:31
No party is complete without a lolly or gift bag for the children to take home.
In fact so many children now expect to recieve a bag.

There are many bags on the market made specifically for parties, however you can also make your own.

When my daughter had a ballerina party we made the bags out of ballerina fabric with a satin tie.

For her butterfly party we used paper bags with butterfly stickers on them for decoration.

The brown paper bag with decorations symbolising the theme of your party is probably the easiest option.

Do lolly bags always need to have lollies in them? Certaintly not. We often include a coloring in picture for the child to take home. You can also include stickers, bracelets, yo yos and other novelty toys.

We recently attended my friend's daughter's first birthday party. My friend put lollies in the bags for the older children but obviously one year olds shouldn't be recieving lollies. They recieved a little cup with a board book in it. Great idea!

What great ideas do you have for lolly bags?

Cricket party

October 18th 2006 03:55
With the start of the cricket season there may be some boys who are keen to have a cricket theme for their birthday party.

Ideas for games.
Bowling competition : who can bowl the wickets off the cricket stumps the most times.

Pin the wickets on the stumps. Draw up a big picture of cricket stumps and make cardboard wickets. Blind fold the children and ask them to try and pin the wickets on the stumps.

A mini game of cricket, especially good if you have a big backyard or long drive way.

Ideas for decorations:

Decorate the walls with pictures of your child's favorite cricket players.

Flags of the cricket playing nations.

Ideas for the birthday cake.

A cricket field.

Cake in the shape of a cricket bat or a baggy green cap.

Ideas for inviations:

Invitations can be shaped like a bat or a ball.

You could print out a picture of a cricket field and write the party details over the top of the picture.

Trivia nights

October 15th 2006 03:38
I have now been to 3 trivia parties, mind you none for children. The ones I have attended were to celebrate 50th and 40th birthdays.

The two for 50th's were held in restaurants and were organised by the birthday people who wrote and aksed the questions, as well as printing the question and answer sheets up

Dressing up parties

October 6th 2006 04:42
Op shops can be a haven for finding the perfect outfit for a theme or dress up party.

Friends and I went op shopping today for a 40th party with an 80's theme. Obvisously looking for clothes and accessories for ourselves but also found things for kids if they get invited to a themed party

Sports party with a difference

October 4th 2006 06:43
Many years ago I attended a 21st birthday party with the theme of "formal with a touch of sport".

This would be a great theme for a teenager, 21st, 40th or 50th. Let's face it it is not just the kids who like to celebrate birthdays

Birthday Cakes

September 29th 2006 07:08
Homemade birthday cakes form a significant part of your child's childhood memories.

I have made all of my daughter's birthday cakes except one. That was for the year she wanted an ice-cream cake. Sometimes I have had to make more than one cake. One for the family celebration, one for the party and one for playgroup or kinder. I usually chose fairly simple cakes to make for kinder and playgroup. Eg a chocolate ripple cake decorated as a caterpillar
