Charlie Weis hired at Kansas

The Kansas Jayhawks decided to make a big splash on Thursday. Instead of making a ho-hum hire, Kansas hired Charlie Weis as their new head coach.
Weis was formerly the offensive coordinator for Florida. The Gators struggled to a 6-6 record this year. They will face Ohio State in the Urban Bowl er Gator Bowl.
The terms of the contract for Weis were not made public yet. The previous coach Turner Gil, had a five-year contract worth $10 million, before being terminated after his second season. The Jayhawks went 5-19 during his tenure.
Weis held one other head coaching job, at Notre Dame. He fell to the pressure as many others have at that position. Weis has also spent time with the New England Patriots, New York Jets and Kansas City Chiefs. He was an offensive coordinator the Patriots during three Super Bowl wins.
Kansas has enjoyed some good teams in the past, including the 2007 squad which beat Virginia Tech in the Orange Bowl. Things have gotten dark around Lawrence, Kansas since then. The school hopes Weis can turn this around.
