Ryan Madson

November 15th 2011 17:30
Ryan Madson
Relief Pitcher

Ryan Madson is an undervalued free agent. Living in the Philadelphia area, i have got to watch every game he pitched over the last 9 years. Madson has appered in close to 500 games for the Phillies, 18 of which were as a starter. Any team could use him out of the pen. Not a shutdown guy by any means, but is a pitcher that can be used in or around 70 games.

As a Scott Boras client Washington seems like a logical place to land. Boras is all about the money and has to have a deal with the Nationals to land his players there. Madson may only be worth 6 million a year, but with Scott Boras negotiating for him Madson could walk away with 15 or 16 million a year.

My Prediction: Houston Astros 4 years $38 million
I say Houston because they are taking everyone they can from the Phillies. Houston does not have a real closer. Madson shocked everyone this year by being a reliable closer in Philly. He is still young enough to fit in with the Astros, while having the experiance to help mold the team. With needing to rebuild that bullpen who better than Ryan Madson to help Melancon close?

David Ortiz

David Ortiz
Designated Hitter

$12.5 million is what David Ortiz made with Boston in 2011. Which team will be willing to pay that for a DH? Yankees and Red Sox are the only teams that come to mind, with that kind of cash for a player who doesn't play defense. Ortiz could add power and runs to any team. 35 home runs and 118 rbis a year, can make any team a contender.

The career of David Ortiz is winding down. With the use of a DH in the American League, Ortiz could have another 10 years in Baseball. The Yankees would love to sign a dominate DH, minus the fact that they will be going younger. Boston needs Ortiz because they don't have anyone to take his spot, unless A-Gone moves to the DH role.

My Prediction: Pittsburgh Pirates 7 years $83 million

Other Suiters:
Tampa Bay Rays
Oakland A's
Seattle Mariners

CJ Wilson

CJ Wilson
Starting Pitcher

CJ Wilson is the best pitcher on the free agent market this year. Wilson is coming off his best season of his seven year career. To me CJ is not a number one starter just yet, but with a guarnteeed 7 wins a season he could be a viable number two. Given the market for starters Wilson could go to any top team.

As a fan of the Phillies CJ WIlson is my top want of the offseason. Since Philly does not need starters that is a want that will not come true in the near future. The Rangers are not going to let CJ leave the team without a fight, so he could end up staying put. Red Sox and Yankees could both use depth to their rotation.

My Prediction: San Diego Padres 3 years $44 million

Other suitable teams:
White Sox
Royals
Red Sox

AL East

The Boston Red Sox are the favorites to win the 2011 AL East crown, the toughest division in baseball. The Boston/New York fued has been going on since i could remember and i been watching for atleast 15 years. Let's take a look at the five teams that make up the strong AL East.

AL Pennant

Red Sox, Red Sox, Red Sox. That is all you have heard about all offseason. Do they have a good enough team to win it all in 2011? Maybe, but i have 3 teams in the AL that will try and prove experts wrong.

NL West

Los Angeles Dodgers- The Dodgers have found their core guys. Guys of which came from their farm system in 2006. All 5 of the core guys have been to the postseason with L.A. 3 times and haven't got past round 2. Getting past that round in 2011 they will need power and timely hitting, somethng they were not known for in 2010. Dodgers need Kemp and Ethier to step up if they want the 2011 NL Pennant.

NL Central

Cincnnati Reds- The 2010 sleeper pick was the Reds. To succeed in 2011 they will need to relay on the strenghth of their defense. As strong as their defense looks, to win the NL Central they will need Arroyo, Bailey, and Cueto to be better in 2011 than 2010.

NL East

February 14th 2011 16:25
The NL East has been the best division in baseball the last four seasons. Mets blew a hugh lead to the Phillies in 2007. 2008 was much of the same for the Mets and Phillies. Since then the Phillies have won the division by at least 5 games the last two seasons. Will 2011 be much of the same or will we have a new NL East winner.
