Chapter 8: What evil may come
Dean wakes before the alarm. Candi is lying beside him on her stomach. He runs a hand over her hair and down the small of her back. Her eyes flutter then open. She smiles at him.
Candi says, “Morning, honey.”
Dean says, “Morning, I hope my touch didn’t wake you.”
Candi says, “Are you kidding? This is the nicest way I’ve woken up in months. Oh, listen?”
Dean says, “What, what do you hear?”
Candi says, “Absolutely nothing.”
She smiles. Then she kisses him, pushes him to his back and rubs down his chest. She kisses his pecks. He runs his fingers through her hair down her back and holds her as he turns her on her back. He positions her where he wants. The alarm starts. (‘She Brings Me Love” by Bad Company plays)
Dean says, “This is a great song for us. Ignore the clock. We have time for one more uninterrupted interlude.”
Candi says, “Yes, Dean.”
Sam and Jen decide to look into some recent murders in Akron, Ohio. Ruby said something evil was coming. When they heard about the murders on the news only a few hours away they decided to go after whomever or whatever it was before it got to them and the kids first. Abigail had no problem watching the boys. She considers herself their great protector even if she knows Dean would disagree. It is 2am when they get to the area the murders took place. They go to the empty home of one of the victims first since no one in town would like being questioned so early. Alert and focused they enter the house.
Sam says, “Stay close, its dark.”
Jen says, “Ok, Mr. Overprotective.”
They look at the crime scene. Jen starts getting flashes of a woman coming home and being attacked by a man who she only sees from the shoulders down. When the images stop Sam is holding her.
Sam says, “Are you ok? What happened? You screamed. Then you passed out and I caught you.”
Jen says, “Thanks, I don’t know exactly, but I think somehow I saw what happened here. I felt I knew her killer, but I didn’t see his face.”
Sam says, “OK, Allison DuBois, did the victim know her killer or did you feel you knew him?”
Jen says, “Both, but how? I don’t understand why that happened to me. It was really scary.”
Sam says, “Its Ruby’s blood and mine. Its something that your mind was opened up to. It’s going to help us catch this guy. Do you know anyone from this area?”
Jen says, “Yeah, I do. Remember I told you I went to Kent State University. Well, most of the people I told you about lived in this area. I think a few still do.”
Sam says, “Oh, so maybe that’s why you didn’t see the guys face in your vision. It could be someone from your past?”
Jen says, “I don’t think so. It’s not like I would ever get involved with or be friends with someone dark enough to kill.”
Looking hurt Sam says, “You love me? Looking at your past I would say you always gravitated to others like me and…”
Jen says, “You’re not a killer Sam! You’re not going to be a killer! And if people have to die it’s for the greater good when you have anything to do with it!”
Sam says, “I’m sorry.”
Jen takes in a deep breath and lets it out. She thinks back and knows Sam is kinda right.
Jen says, “No Sam, I’m sorry. But you’re still not a killer like the guy that took a machete and hacked that poor woman to pieces. You’re good inside. No matter how dark you go I still feel that in you. Ruby feels that warmth to. That’s why she wants you so bad.”
Sam says, “She can’t have all of me. That’s because of your warmth.”
Still holding her in his arms he leans down to kiss her. He picks her up and carries her out to the car parked out of site. He puts her in the back seat. His right hand caresses her cheek and brushes some hair back off her face. He kisses her while lifting her shirt up. He pulls it over her head as she pulls his shirt up…”
Sam says “We can’t do anything for a few hours here. I want to feel that warmth now.”
Jen says, “I do to.”
Jen and Sam wake as sunlight illuminates the inside of the car. The convertible roof is up to keep them safe and warm inside. Sam sits up and tries to stretch. As much as he loved being wrapped around Jen in the back seat it was quite cramped. Jen stretches her legs over his lap as she rubs her eyes to focus on him.
Jen says, “Morning, do you have a plan for today?”
Sam says, “Let’s lookup some of your old friends after breakfast.”
Jen says, “Ok, breakfast sounds good. Maybe we should call Candi and Dean to join us? I think I need Candi here for some girlfriend advice on the best way to contact an ex-boy friend.”
Sam says, “You don’t have to talk to anyone you don’t want to. Just point me to him and I’ll find out the truth.”
Jen says, “I know.”
They get out of the backseat and get in the front seat. Sam slowly drives through town until he spots an open diner. They go in and sit on the same side of a booth. Sam holds her hand on the table as they look over the table placemat menu. The waitress comes over.
The waitress says, “What can I get you?”
Sam says, “Two coffees. The banana pecan pancakes for her and plain for me. Short stacks.”
The waitress goes to put their order in as Jen gets her cell phone out. She remembered it this time. She calls Candi who answers almost immediately.
Candi says, “What’s up sis? Are the boys ok? We are on our way home right now.”
Jen says, “They’re with Abigail. Sam and I are checking out some murders in the Akron area we heard about. We are at a diner near the last victim’s home. Can you join us? I think Jack might be involved or someone else I know from KSU.
Candi says, “We will be there as soon as we can. Are you ok?”
Jen says, “Yeah, I think I have to go talk to him. Sam said he would instead, but I think I should. Should I?”
Candi says, “It’s up to you, but if Sam offered maybe you should let him. We can talk more when I get there.”
When Candi hangs up she tells Dean what Sam and Jen have been up to while they were having a good time. Dean is not happy, but tries to understand the reason was to stop something that was heading towards them in the first place. He wants to go home to see Johnny before going off to save people again.
Dean says, “We can just take the kids with us. That’s what we should do. We don’t have to leave them alone.”
Candi says, “We wouldn’t be leaving them alone. Abigail would be with them. It’s too dangerous to bring them into this. They are only one.”
Dean says, “Your right, but I will be taking Johnny out with me when he’s just a little older. He’s not going to have to watch over Bobby making sure that kid stays alive.”
Candi says, “Ok, but this time the kids stay at home.”
They stop by the house. Everyone is fine. The boys are both laughing as Dean and Candi walk in the house. Abigail is playing peek-a-boo with them. Dean is relieved to see them living such a normal life.
Candi says, “Morning, honey.”
