My lovely new kitchen

June 29th 2009 03:35
old kitchen
yuck

my old kitchen is now a handful of ashes and and small pile of old junk.

new kitchen
shiny bright and lovely

my new kitchen is a place I love to be in, love to keep clean, a place where I feel whole. I didn't realise how depressed my old kitchen made me until I had my new kitchen installed.

The flouro lights make a difference, the abundant benchtop space makes a difference. The fact that the mice can't get onto my cupboards, just scamper and sneak next to my cupboards makes a difference.

Later today I will make my first batch of scones in my lovely kitchen and life will be as good as it can be. Thank you to you all, thanks to my brother who gave me his old kitchen to become my new kitchen.

Thank you to my mother who held my kitchen in her barn for so long, while I tried to organise someone to put it in. Thank you to Luke and ferret who delivered my kitchen. Thank you to Steve, who installed my kitchen, and to Mick and Trevor who did their bit too.

And a big thank you to my lovely husband Graham who helped install the kitchen, and who loves the kitchen too.

Enjoy Your Life, It's Up to You

June 23rd 2009 02:56
We all have to get older. It is a simple fact of life. We are born, we live and we die. The way we live, the lives we lead all impact on how well we live. If we take care of ourselves, it can help us live a longer life, a better life. But there are no guarantees.

And even if you follow all of the rules, you can still fall victim to some of the common ailments that can plague us. Some people seem to cruise through life with barely a sniffle, others fall victim to everything going around. Whichever way it is for you, it is good to do your bit to help your body do the right thing for you.

And we all have different things that affect us as we approach middle age and beyond. Women have to guard against breast cancer, cervical cancer, as well as working to keep looking as good as they want to look.

Men have their own issues in older years. They don’t suffer quite the same issues as women relating to their looks, but they certainly have health issues. Prostate Cancer is a big one, as well as other forms of cancer that can happen to any of us.

The good news is that you can help yourself by eating particular foods. Soy, tofu and soy milk are all good, and so are yummier things like fruit, shellfish, oily fish, nuts and seeds. Eating a diet rich in these foods can help prevent or at least lessen problems with enlarged prostate and can also reduce the need for medications like Viagra and Cialis.

These foods can also help with sexual health in middle aged and older men. Just because you’re getting older, doesn’t mean you have to give up the finer things in life.

New Kitchen is In!!!

June 23rd 2009 02:29
It's been twenty years I've lived in this house. Twenty long years of living with a kitchen I've hated.

I don't know the person who had this house built, but I sure know he was no style king. The kitchen that I have put up with, is about the worst you could imagine in a 70's kitchens built by a person who has no idea about what a kitchen really needs to make it an all right place to spend your cooking time.

The kitchen had inadequate cupboard space, no drawers, insufficient lighting. The benchtops were one and a half inch tiles and the cupboards that were there were an awful green. I like green, it's my favourite colour, but this green was revolting.

But I put up with this kitchen, because the property had other things that were good. The swimming pool, the dog kennels, the space, the neighbours being far enough away. But the kitchen!

But now, I am pleased to let you know I finally have a kitchen I can be proud of. I am happy to clean this kitchen, happy to be in this kitchen. And the good thing is, the cupboards can actually keep the damned mice out!

Absolute bliss. Just thought I'd let you know. Thank you for reading!

I’ve been looking at a website http://www.ecookinggames.com, and it just looks like so much fun!! I wish I was a young girl again and then I could go to this site more often. I have to do the boring real life cooking and it is so much more fun to be doing all these amazing games instead.

I love food, and I love fun, so Cooking Games seems like the perfect combination. Cooking food for real, for people who munch and grunt gets so boring, but Food Games at this site are so cool

How safe is your house?

June 11th 2009 05:50
When my husband travels interstate, and I’m sitting home at night, just me and my son and the dogs, I think feel secure enough. I don’t need a big strong man to protect me. Or do I?

There are a lot people out there, with no proper job, no hope, no idea on how to get a good life legally, and no morals. These people can be so lacking in ideas how to legally better their situation that they decide taking from other, better off people is the best way to go

Well, I did it, just like I said I would. Sweet mufins again, and so, so nice.

Wholemeal flour again, olive oil, milk, egg (duck), baking powder, nutmeg, salt (tiny bit), poached pear chopped up finely, chopped dates, and whatever it is I may have forgotten. I made a dozen and there are now nine left

Savoury Muffins this time

June 8th 2009 01:38
We have only one left in the freezer. They were savoury, they were tasty, they made lunch or snacktime delish!

What was in them, I hear you ask. Well, that's the problem with being a creative (lazy) person. I remember they had the usual, flour, egg, salt, olive oil. There was cheese (cheddar and bourssin). Probably there was pepper, salt (may have been stock powder). I put in chopped tomatoes and mushrooms

A Friend will let you know

May 27th 2009 23:44
What do you do when you have a friend who stinks? Well, maybe not stink, but perhaps you’ve got a friend whose odour doesn’t fill you with joy. What can you do?

Telling them outright would/could be embarrassing, but you are getting tired of their tired (or worse) smell. What to do

What are friends for?

May 27th 2009 23:15
We all have friends, even you out there, you know who I'm talking about, yeah you.

Some friends are easy to deal with, they show up every now and then for a drink and a bit of a chat, then drift off to their own life again. Super simple. They are funny and fun, and they don't cause any strife

Aimee, you keep saying 'they' like gay people are one amorphous mob who think in exactly the same way. Gay people, as I've said before, can be lots of different things and think lots of different things.

Lumping people together like that may be a way of handling them, but everybody has the right to their own opinion. Just like we all have the right to give our opinion, taking care not to be too rude or naughty.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to kill it."

I'm a dog person, fearful of world domination by cats. If they ever get opposable thumbs, we are in so much trouble!!!

A H1N1 - that's Swine flu - the name is meant the be AH1N1, but that's too hard to remember. The pig industry would sure like us to use it though.

I prefer Swine Flu, as long as people realise you don't catch it from patting, being near, having sex with or eating pigs. You catch it from people.

on What are your addictions?

July 2nd 2009 00:51
Cell phone, I take it with me, but rarely use it. Internet access Oooo, I'm an addict there, for sure.

Thanks for the thanks and for the tip.

Jesus seems to have said things about being nice and helping people that resonate with me - have I got the right guy? Doing unto others always seems like a good wake up call for when you're about to do something not nice to somebody else.

An Almighty Dog watching over us seems friendly and safe though, doesn't it? And an Almighty Dog will keep us safe when the cats finally get it together and get serious about their attempts to take over the world.

MNG I think the reason was so we could talk about it and write about it. Isn't that the reason for everything that happens?

There may have been some money making issues there too.

Hey, Ken. You can turn the damn thing off too! Read a book, expand your brain instead of turning it to mush.

There are wonderful things in the bible, there are terrible things in the bible. I think it might be relevant to remember that the bible is made up of men's interpretations on what God has said.

Back when the bible was written down, the women didn't get a chance to say much. I feel the fighting and killing stuff may have been too much testosterone, and if a women had been the one writing it all down the interpreation may have been very different.

Feel free to ignore me. I'm a lazy feminist toying with the idea of accepting God into my life and eschewing my former God-ridiculing ways. It's tricky.

Or I might end up doing a letter reversal and continue devoting my life to Dog. The canines in the house feel that is the Proper Way.

Journeywoman, thank you for allowing me this space to wander publicly through my mind.

Sexual? Am I missing a point here?

It's an interesting image, sending an ambiguous message to the view. I find we read messages how we want them to be.

To me, she looks like a teenager, saying, 'OK how about this look? Is that OK?'

If anything, I find the image to be of one who is still being a child, not a sexual being.

Morgan, any thoughts? Journeywoman?

Cohen isn't mocking the gay community as much as mocking the types who have issues with there being a gay community at all. I think gay people have as much right to be irritating to some as hetero people do.

I also believe we all have the right to just be whatever we want to be, as long as no-one gets hurt.

Aimee, I am so jealous at you for getting this much attention, so quickly! If I wasn't giggling, I'd have to hate you!

Except I am really bad at hating people. I tend to feel sorry for people rather than hate them. I am trying to be a saint. It's hard work, let me tell you. Except I may have mentioned something about my new kitchen.

The kitchen puts things into perspective for me. Clean smooth lines, bright light, gleaming stainless steel. Mixer tap, dual sink!
