Still Learning!

September 15th 2009 00:06
When I was at high school, many moons ago, I did practically no homework and got the results you'd expect. Pretty average. But now that I'm studying again, I'm quite enjoying working at home to do my assignments, even though at TAFE for the course I'm doing, the only options are Pass, Do Again and Fail.

I get the feeling I would have to not hand up any work for weeks and weeks before it would become a problem, whereas when I was at high school I would have been in strife with my teachers quick smart. So the pressure to get work done isn't as great as it was, but I still feel the need to get it done and get it right.

I had lots of other things that were far more important than schoolwork in the 1970s. I can't really remember what they were, and those I can remember I'm not telling you about! Now though, getting my schoolwork done is very important, and I'm even getting better about not putting everything off until the last minute.

I think having a computer and the Internet are great for my studying, and perhaps if they had been available back then I might have got more into schoolwork. I doubt it though. I wasn't destined to be one of the clever kids, just one of the 'could do better' kids.

What about you? What thoughts do you have on schoolwork then and now? I'd love to hear what you think.

Keep your Loved Ones Safe

September 11th 2009 00:08
If you have a swimming pool, what is one thing you should do to keep your loved ones safe? By loved ones, I mean your children and your pets, and your small relatives. Children flock to a swimming pool and you can all have many joyful hours playing with them in the cooling water.
But the fun times end with summer, and the pool just sits there, unused for months on end. Small children, and small pets, particularly dogs though remember the fun times and don’t agree that the fun times have to end, and they will sometimes try to have a swim when no-one else is there to tell them not to.
There are lots of things you need to do for winter maintenance if you have a swimming pool whether in ground or above ground. Installing a safety pool cover should be a part of that winter maintenance.
The consequences otherwise can be terrible. There is nothing in the world more awful than the death of your beloved child, and the realisation that the death is preventable and partly your fault could be impossible to live with.
So what should you do so that this never happens to you? Get your pool a cover, that's what you should do. Safety Pool Covers - If our pool had a cover back when our naughty litter of schnauzer puppies snuck through a hole in the fence, little Octopussy would be alive. She was a gorgeous little puppy, just 8 weeks old but showing all the qualities of a potential show champion.
Some inattention from the people in her family, and she was in the pool and gone from our lives. A pool cover would have saved her life. It’s as simple as that. I shudder to think of it being my son instead of a puppy. I love our dogs, but they are nothing compared to my own child. I would lose most of my reason for living if I lost my son.
Our son is old enough not to need the safety of a pool cover now – he’s a much better swimmer than me, but I know that a safety pool cover is still an excellent thing to have to keep your pool safe. If you have a pool, you need a safety pool cover.

New Food Bible

August 30th 2009 00:02
Well I now know where to go when I want/need to find a recipe. I was wandering around the internet and found a recipe for onion bhajis - baked not fried. The website is Chef Jeenas food recipes, and I recommend all of you who are interested it food go and have a look.

We had Indian food the other week and I loved the Bhajis, but they were deep fried, and I don't deep fry anything at home anymore. So when I found baked onion bhajis, I knew I'd found my bible.

There are all kinds of recipes on the website, vegetarian, meat, pasta and anything else you can think of. There are videos to help you cook some of the dishes, lots of lovely photos, lots on nutrition. It's my idea of a great food resource.

I haven't been paid for this blog post, I just think the website is/will be useful for everyone looking for good, healthy food.

I love it when it's pork bellies for tea! Why? Because bellies are yummy and pork bellies are what my husband cooks, not me!

Graham is getting ready to boil the pork, then he will cook it somehow with various things, then more things happen, rice is involved and then we dine sumptuously. The reason I don't know the details is because I am happy to give way to Graham when he wants to cook something, and I only get involved when it is time to serve up the food

Being a Student/ Wife/Mother

August 26th 2009 05:16
I'm at the middle of week three in my new life of being a student as well as all the other things I am/do.

And the most important point, in terms of this particular blog, is how much easier life for the whole family can be ig you get a little organised. Yesterday, while I was doing the one hour drive to where I am now studying, I thought, hmm, I must remember to get the mince out tomorrow morning

What I Want to do When I Grow Up

August 24th 2009 22:33
I may have finally found what I want to do when I grow up. It's only taken me 46 years, but at last, I am doing something positive about getting a job that will satisfy my needs for a meaningful career.

I have worked in the Public Service, which came close to what I want, but in a way far too structured for my creative self. I have worked in the Pet Food Industry which was interesting enough and had elements of what I want, but also some elements that felt wrong to me

Whether we realise it or not, we all have pests in our lives. Some of them may be people who ruin your life, or who irritate you. I’m not talking about those sorts of pests, I’m talking about the little things that invade our homes and cause annoyance, irritations, rashes, and even structural damage to homes, sometimes.

Those little creepy crawlies are not just out there, they’re inside your house as well. You may not see them, but they could be nibbling on the wooden frame of your house, or on your clothes in the wardrobe

Whats for tea?

August 5th 2009 07:19
The son asks the question at least once a week. Today I was able to confidently answer, 'Chicken'.

Then came the follow up question, 'How are you going to cook it, crumbed or not crumbed

Which Pet do You Pat?

August 4th 2009 23:37
I'm a dog person, no doubts about that. I've lived with two cats, in earlier years. I have a friend who is a dog breeder and a cat breeder who has children who have had rats and mice as pets.

The dog lady

August 4th 2009 10:28
I am proud of the many hats I wear. I am the dog lady, the poetry person, the bread tag person. But it's a weird thing that I keep writing about cats or commenting on blogs about cats. I don't really like cats. I am a dog person. Cats are lazy, contrary, selfish.

People love them, but I don't. So why do I write about them? I have this fear that I may have been a cat lover in a previous life. Maybe not. Perhaps I'm jealous of the cats. They carry on in their feline way, never giving a toss about anybody else

I voted for Waterloo. "I was defeated, you won the war". Nice lyrics.

I have never ever peed in a pool. Is that a guy thing or is James just not quite toilet trained yet?

on Who is the ultimate James Bond?

September 15th 2009 00:47
I like Daniel Craig in the role, I wonder what Viggo Mortensen could do with it? I enjoy seeing him half stripped, which, of course, is an important part of playing James Bond.
Well it is for this viewer, anyway!

Morgan, thank you for taking me back to my glory days! I adored that movie, saw it I don't know how many times at the pictures and since at home.
Dress ups are so much fun, aren't they?

It's astounding! Time is fleeting. Madness takes its toll. But listen closely.
Not for very much longer...

One of the dogs is reading my book, the other one is whispering secrets about his brother! They are both Pharaoh Hounds.

Hi Lara,
Our dogs are special! Ha ha. Rangler the schauzer gets a mushroom stem as a reward for having her epilepsy medicine and the others, another schnauzer and some pharaoh hounds get them because they are VIDs (very important dogs).

Ruby is the cutest Great Dane I have ever seen, and I've seen quite a few Great Danes in my twenty-two years of showing dogs.

These look delish! Problem for our household, husband and son don't like couscous (I could use rice, but it won't be as good).

We all love mushrooms though, even the dogs!
