Protection This Is A Key

October 18th 2007 13:08
Protecting your future investment is very key and should be looked into very carefully. Years ago sports and non-sports cards use to be put in holders that had chemicals that in the end would make the cards fade and get damaged. This has changed a lot and many of the newer products are acid free so protection is a lot better now. Card holders and card pages are available along with many other fine products. Check your local hobby store as they will have something that will work for you.

One of the things that many people foregt is that cards are made with paper and they tend to fade over the years so keep them ut of light all the time is critical especially sunlight. I don't know how many flea markets I've seen cards setting in the sun just getting baked. These cards will be your investments so protect them.

Condition Is King

October 17th 2007 14:40
When you talk about investing in sports or non-sports cards condition is king. The better the card the more valuable the card is. Now over the years many people have tried many things to make cards look better by bleaching and other things. Find yourself a reputable grading service and have your cards graded. There are many good ones on the net that you can use.

Condition of a baseball card that has a PSA 10 can bring you thousands more than just a mint baseball card. This is why their are so many fakes out there as money can be may on unsuspecting collectors who think they are getting a bargain when in reality it's a fake. Remember condition is king, but know the dealer and where the card came from. You never want to spend thousands on a fake card which will be virtually worthless.

Investing In Sports Cards?

October 17th 2007 11:56
Yes, this is probably the most asked question I always get is how to invest sports cards and should I keep or sell a certain card. So in the next few posts I will go into the end of investing sports cards. The first thing is you must know the basics and let's go over some of those real quick.

Their are just two main companies right now who print sports cards and that is Topps and Upper Deck. There are a few smaller companies but for investing purposes stay with these two. Secondly we need to talk about condition of the card, rarity of the card, what to collect, when to sell, who to sell to, and Ebay. All these things will factor in if you make a profit in sports cards. I will break each one down in other posts so you can see step by step how the process works.

When the name Barry Bonds is mentioned many things come to mind and the same thing can be said about his sports cards. One of the most asked questions that I get is what to do with my Barry Bonds cards. This is a very hard question for many reasons as factors will effect this very much. I tell people it depends on certain things. First and foremost is if it's proven he took steroids than his cards will be virtually worthless

Thanks for stopping by Cardboard World where we will talk about sports and non-sports cards. Many people collect baseball, football, basketball, and hockey cards. Toss in the millions of collectors who collect non-sport cards and it's a very vast market.

I've been in the card collecting business on and off for 30 years and will give my insight into the hobby and toss a few investment nuggets your way to help you grow your collection and maybe make a few bucks along the way. I hope you will stop back often to read my posts and as always bust open those packs of cards and tell me about some great pulls you got
