There are a number of very good quality mid range priced digital cameras on the market.
At if is a little difficult separating the forest from the trees. The camera manufactures put lots of marketing spin on their products, although most digital camera brands are on par with each other. Most of them offer similar products with similar features and so on.
Nikon and Canon are perhaps the two most recognized camera brands on the market.
Apart from the DSLR digital cameras there are quite a number of very good alternatives.
The smaller digital cameras offer some of the features that their bigger counter parts do,usually without the added price tag.
The Canon Power Shot G series is a good example sold reasonably well in the US with a list pricing is set at around US$500.
What do you get for $500 ?
Canon's PowerShot G12 digital camera has a fixed lense The Canon G12 has the same ten megapixel CCD sensor resolution as its predecessor. The G12 has a very good optical image stabilization system.
A 5x optical zoom with 28mm wide-angle to a 140mm telephoto capabilities. G12 has a 2.8-inch tilt/swivel LCD display screen. The G12 has high-definition 720p movie mode, with stereo sound recording. An improvement on it’s predecessor the G11. G12 offers a high dynamic range (HDR) shooting mode.
A great feature if your shooting landscapes or scenes with a variable exposure levels.
