Since Nikon incorporated video as part of the digital picture taking process Canon has got its act together. The Canon 550D has one of the best adaptation of video on a digital SLR so far.
The video component also compliments the camera’s still image quality. The 550D has an 18-megapixel CMOS sensor and as an added feature is has Digic 4 processor not as quick as the 7D but it can 3.4fps.
The Canon 550D can shoot video at a resolution of 1080p 24, 25 or 30 frames per second the only problem shooting in video mode was having to manually focus.
The cameras has its customary Live View feature given that the 550D has a slightly smaller LCD screen.
The 550 D is slightly smaller than its predecessors but handles quite well although the controls I feel are a little too fidgety.
The 550D mode control dial contains all the usual scene features and it lends itself well for photographers just starting out. The Creative Auto mode is an excellent feature of the camera .
The 550D has the best of both worlds capable of taking high quality high definition video and excellent still images, although the Nikon 3100 give it a good run for its money.
The Nikon 3100 and the Canon 550 D have very similar features but it is a matter of course that the two rival names will have their supporters and detractors.
If your in the market to buy a smaller yet very functional digital camera the Canon 550 D is a great choice.
