CANDY

Heath Ledger and Abbie Cornish play young junkie-crossed lovers , Geoffrey Rush as the heroine-addicted gay academic and a host of other brilliant Australian talents such as Noni Hazelhurst and Toni Martin. Written by Neil Armfield and premiered in 2006, it is a gut wrenching, sometimes brutually funny look at what it means to be in love with two conflicting passions fear and desire.
Dan (Ledger), a run away outcast with no identifiable family roots and Candy (Cornish), a lovely, middle class, blonde private school girl type fall madly and deeply in love and then fall off the face of the earth into another realm of love and desire, desperation and delinquency.
Rush's unusual casting was a little hard to fathom at first, but wins over, creating a unique and beautifully, bittersweet tragedy.
