Candy Man has now enjoyed sell-out success in Sydney, Brisbane and Perth and was last performed in Adelaide to standing ovations in 2007. That success has enabled additional staging elements to be added to the production, which takes the audience on a journey from Sammy's early start in Vaudeville through to his Rat Pack days performing in Las Vegas, Broadway, and in film and television. Candy Man melds our unique Australian musical heritage and pushes the boundaries into an international, contemporary blend of music, theatre and cabaret with a cool retro feel.
Candy Man was created by and stars Australia's singing and dancing dynamo Wayne Scott Kermond. Wayne recently starred in Guys and Dolls in Sydney and Melbourne and received the Brian Stacey Male Musical Theatre Performer MO AWARD 2009, for his performance in Candy Man.
In Candy Man Wayne captures the feel - good essence and energy of a Sammy Davis Jr. show and his imagination, talent and creativity bring to life the complete Sammy experience.
On stage Wayne is joined by an eight-piece show band and a cast of leading Australian musical theatre dancers (many who have performed and choreographed on So You Think You Can Dance - because they can!).
The show includes the great songs and moves that made Sammy the star he was including the Soft Shoe Shuffle, The Lady is a Tramp, Birth of the Blues, West Side Story, Mr Bojangles, Gonna Build a Mountain, Rhythm of Life and The Candy Man.
Candy Man was conceived and written by Wayne Scott Kermond with musical direction by Mark Taylor and creative development assistance by Kerie Biddell.
Wayne's partner Katie Kermond is Producer / Director with Lighting and Production designs by Stephen Wickham and Choreography by a team of some of Australia's best Musical Theatre dancers and choreographers.
Show business is in Wayne Scott Kermond's blood. Being 'born in a trunk' he is the fourth generation performer of the Kermond family.
As a young child Wayne learnt to tread the boards while travelling and performing alongside his parents throughout Australia and America.
His family tradition has enabled him to acquire skills, such as singing, tap-dancing, acrobating and slapstick comedy. Wayne was awarded Musical Theatre Performer of the Year in 2003 and Peter Allen Performer of the Year in 2006 and Dance Performer of the Year 2007.
When he was eleven years old Wayne was introduced to Musical Theatre when Betty Pounder cast him as a tap dancing sailor in Gypsy alongside Gloria Dawn and Toni Lamond. The musical's Barnum, Westside Story, Jonah Jones, Guys & Dolls, HMS Pinafore with Paul Eddington, A Chorus Line, Chicago followed for Wayne. His television and feature film credits include dramatic roles in The Shiralee for the South Australian Film Corporation, Boof Marsh in the mine-series The Heroes, and the sequel Heroes 2 - The Return, which broke all ratings records as the most watched mini-series in the UK. And most recently Wayne co-starred in Kings in Grass Castles, the four-part mini-series shot on location in Australia and Ireland, playing the role of Stumpy-Michael.
Wayne is probably best known for his starring role as Cosmo Brown in the stage musical Singin' in the Rain in which he received standing ovations for his show stopping number Make 'em Laugh. Wayne was also a principal motion capture performer on the feature film Happy Feet, playing the roles of Love Lace and Memphis - Wayne was the movement to Robin Williams voice.

Someone I admire is Wayne Scott Kermond. There is something that passes across the footlights to the audience when he's out there - as a result they fall in love with him.

A brilliant evening of Capital E entertainment. An outstanding hand-picked dance troupe, a fabulous orchestra that keeps the joint jumping and Kermond, that rare endangered species - a song and dance man, a guy who can keep you entertained all night.
