With so many digital camcorders on the market making a choice can be quite a chore.
What features and functions do I need, how much should I spend.?
All very valid questions. I guess the best place to start is the budget.
The next step is the features I need to take good quality video. Think about what features and functions you need, and make sure the model you’re interested in has them.
Some models have many features you may never use, so there’s no point paying for the ones you don’t need. The next thing I go window shopping check out the models you’re interested in. Camcorders that have the option to shoot video in high definition(HD) preferably at 1080p.
Ask the sales person if you can comfortably hold the camera reach the main controls (such as the zoom) at the same time, especially if you’re left-handed. Ask id the camera has the ability to play back your recordings on your TV in either Standard Definition or High Definition.
Be aware that MiniDV although a very good format is being discontinued. Newer model camcorders have hard drive and Flash removable memory. These camcorders provide the flexibility to show the video on your TV and will give you the option to transferrer the video to a computer quickly and easily.
If you buy or have a MiniDV camera you will need to have a FireWire connection on your computer. Most camcorders now use the more commonly available USB 2.0 connection.
Using the HDMI connection is becoming increasingly popular and is a great way to enjoy video and audio on your Plasma or LCD TV, however this connection can't be used to transfer video from the camcorder onto your computer unless you have a special video card on your computer that has HDMI input and output.
