International Rules Series

November 18th 2011 02:54
I have wondered how long the International Rules Series was going to last, it made it's return last season seemed to have more interest last season than this season. Australia put out a side that was probably good enough to finish last in the AFL, no offense to those playing but that's how they played.

People bag the series saying it's a waste of time and such, well to a degree I see their point. It's a waste of time if the Australians are not going to pay it the respect it deserves.

The hybrid Australian and Gaelic Football Game could become an interesting new sport, I have always been a fan of the two games coming together as they are both pretty much the same anyway.

The main differences are the scoring, the rules, and the ball that is used as well as the field they play on. But the sport still has the bounces, the kicking, the passing and the overs are pretty much like a goal scored in the Australian Football League.

Also the length of the game is different as well, but imagine 4 Quarters of this brand new game with more teams, etc? Maybe the GAA could keep some of these younger players from accepting money to come to Australia.

Or start to pay their players a better wage as well, but back onto the series, some people are not a fan and I can see how they can arrive at that. If the players are not going to take it seriously, why should the supporters?

It's almost like watching the NAB Cup, we know the players aren't that interested but we go anyway to see the youth of our teams and see how they go in that.

We should not be surprised to see a kid from Ireland come and do well in the AFL, because they are basically playing our game there. I think the only thing they have trouble with, is the length of the game and the different shaped ball.

Maybe even the rules, should the International Rules series disappear for good? I'd hope not I love watching it, but I think maybe they need to find a way to make it more interesting if they are going to send teams that aren't interested, maybe make it a state of origin tournament.

Was Carroll worth £35m?

February 7th 2011 08:32
Liverpool's new signing Andy Carroll has yet to make an appearance for his new club, still sitting on the sidelines with an injury. People comment about him and Wayne Rooney who made a big more to Manchester United when he was about the same age, he was a bit older than Carroll though. But he made 67 appearances for Everton, netting 15 league goals. In 08-09 Carroll played 14 games for 3 goals with Newcastle.

Last season in the Championship he made 39 appearances netting 17 goals, this season to date he has played 19 games, and netted the 11 goals. Since then he has gone down with an injury and now moves to Liverpool for a massive fee which some have slammed Liverpool for making.

There's no doubt with the loss of Fernando Torres Liverpool were always going to be on the hunt for a striker, they had signed Luis Suarez' for less than Carroll, and he has been playing well since his cross to the side. In Torres' first game against his old side he didn't score and lost 1-nil.

His desire to play for a side that's going to win titles, and play in Europe currently has them Chelsea are sitting 4th ahead of Tottenham by goal difference, 10 points behind Manchester United who lost for the first time this season.

Arsenal also blew a chance to close the gap when they allowed Newcastle back into the game on the weekend. But this is about young Andy Carroll, young lad with a discipline problem. He was one of the best strikers in the then known Coca Cola Championship, now npower Championship.

He is a great future talent, no doubt, but is he now worth the money? I am in a mixed position right now as a fan of the team, and an admirer of his talents, I think that there is a lot of pressure now on Andy Carroll to perform, can he handle it?

Carroll himself says he felt as if he was forced out of Newcastle, and didn't want to leave, could this affect him at Liverpool, being a Geordie lad? It's some questions that a Liverpool fan has to ask, and worry about. Carroll right now is portably worth half of what was paid fro him, and one day he will be worth more, but have we overspent for a player that is only 21, and still has many unknown factors.

But even if Carroll does fail, Luis Suarez already looks the goods, and might be the better man to replace Torres, than Carroll, but he should also take the pressure of the young lad.

Newcastle fans are no doubt still angry over the move to sell off Carroll, but they have some good players there on the way through. They showed on the weekend against Arsenal they have a fighting spirit. without Carroll the Toon also managed to end a game 1-1 with Tottenham Hotspur.

The poor performance against Fulham can now be forgotten, well half forgotten as Newcastle looked flat against Arsenal to start, and had to take a half to get going.

TNA "They" are revealed.

October 20th 2010 12:11
The biggest PPV of the year for TNA and we finally got to see who they are, some were expecting "They" to be EV 2.O well TNA revealed them as Eric Bischoff, Hulk Hogan, and Jeff Jarrett, and new TNA World Champion Jeff Hardy. For pretty much the first time in his career, Jeff Hardy has become a heel, and this new direction for TNA does look like an appealing one.

The imPACT before the PPV Dixie Carter signed what was a contract that she thought was going to say goodbye to Abyss from TNA, well that backfired on her and now "They" run the show. The PPV did have some lackluster matches, but the ending was what really captured it,

TNA has started to slowly climb out from the craptitude and has started to show a lot of promise, with Mickie James now in the company, possibly Matt Hardy joining in the new year, and maybe even The Hurricane as well, who knows where TNA can go from here.

Now people were complaining about the way the imPACT went after the PPV, well talking segments are usually annoying, but TNA was setting up the takeover, you have to admit, the matches now days are just a backdrop to the show, the real action is the segments, the videos, the storylines, and the matches are the final part of the show.

The spectacle of wrestling is now how the storylines go, and how they are written, and booked and matches seem to complete that puzzle. So cut TNA some slack if for one night the wrestling took a back seat, TNA booked that imPACT exactly how I would have done it.

I mean, TNA is now under the management (in the story) of Eric, Hulk and Jeff, with Abyss and Hardy the body guards if you will. Now they also had to explain why they did what they did, how they did it, and then they had the reaction of the talent, and the former president. Who I might add is now working the fans via twitter.

Now that's some sense, use social networks to your advantage make the storyline as real as you can make it. And TNA has made it as real as possible, by taking shots at how WCW ended, Jeff and Angle also brought up real life issues, and it explained why Jeff did what he did.

And that imPACT was the biggest one of the year, because there was so much going on from the PPV, so much to discuss, and then when Jarrett beat the snot out of Angle and almost "ended his career" even Taz was brought into that angle. Now you have made Angle one part of the team that will try and save TNA from "Them"

Fortune appear to be what will turn into 2k10s version of nWo, which will battle TNA at some stage in possibly a war games type match where Dixie's team will try and bring TNA back to her and "Save it" from the guys that "killed" WCW.

The futures of Sting and Nash seem to be uncertain at the moment as well, while Sting is taking some time to consider his future in the company, Nash has been posting messages alluding to his possible exit from TNA and possibly wrestling as well. Unless, both come back in a few weeks to "Save" TNA from "Them" and such.

TNA has also signed Katie Lea, it will be interesting if they eventually sign her "brother" Paul, and maybe change things up there. WWE was going to try and incest angle with them, but that managed to fade, and both seem to end up on ECW before fading into the future endeavors club.

I have not looked so forward to another imPACT in such a long time, I know there are still TNA haters out there, but unless you are willing to give it a go, you do not know what you are missing. I used to be pro WWE, loved watching nothing but the 'E but I have started to wane away from that.

It's not the PG-13 rating, or anything, it's been slowly losing it's appeal for a very long time, Nexus was interesting to begin with but that's now turned into a boring crap hole. Daniel Bryan was the only thing I was interested in, they fired him, brought him back, but it's really not the same.

Seeing Bret Hart in the ring and not doing anything but pinching and putting on the sharpshooter has sealed it for me that the WWE is starting to stink up the joint. We know Bret cannot wrestle, why bother booking him in matches as all he can do is throw weak punches and limber around the ring?

Tyler Reks on Team Smackdown? 'Nuff said.

Goldust offering to marry Aksana to keep her in the country? Dud.

Goldust sending love letters to the Million Dollar belt? Puhlease.

Nxt with the Divas? Well that was great idea, until stupid challenges made it more eye candy crap, with no real respect to the ability of these women. You have talented women, and then you have some that cannot wrestle for shit, or cut a promo for shit, and then you get someone Jamie who looked promising you fire her.

I love wrestling, not one company, but I have lost a lot of interest in the WWE, slowly becoming rubbish.

Election 2010 - The Dud Election

August 17th 2010 16:21
The 2010 Election has been in full swing since it was called, admittedly I was not aware of the election being called as like normal football loving Australians I was more interested in the football games going around. But now we have had Tony Abbott making his promises, his party taking their shots at Labor and vice versa. But I cannot help but feel that Tony Abbott just isn't really Prime Minister material.

Listening to every speech he has had, every interview he has had, just seems like he cannot do it without backtracking, and stuttering through the interviews, and press conferences, but also I do not believe that many Australians care for him anyway, I know I don't and that is why I cannot vote Liberal, not that I had planned on that anyway, not that I had actually planned to vote for either until I saw the candidates and how the election was going to unfold

Oops the WWE did it again!

August 17th 2010 08:32
The WWE's Summerslam PPV was hyped up to see the Nexus battle Team Cena...well actually it was Team WWE, but anyone that believed otherwise were kidding themselves. So it seemed like another Invasion angle the last time WWE did this was the WCW/ECW alliance, and we know how that went, WCW and ECW were made to look weak, there weren't any of the big name stars that would have saved that angle and it was scrapped by the wrestling world as another failed angle.

Fast forward to 2010 and WWE are doing yet another attempt at an invasion this time, it's the bright "young stars" of Nexus that could be the future of WWE, though as seen some may not make it but that's just how the business is. So now we have the Nexus they are attacking stars, they are putting some on the "shelf" and then some are quitting the team, but then they are back in town again for the team

2010 Pies best Pies since 90

August 16th 2010 07:12
Collingwood are looking at possibly their best team since that 1990 side that captured the premiership, people are going to throw up that team that lost 2 Grand Finals, but I am going to say that team was good but was not great. No folks, Collingwood's team now has very little weakness to it, the main weakness I have found has been their kicking.

Friday Night it started well, but then the yips came back and then the Magpies ended up with an inaccurate scoreline. I have seen people bag Travis Cloke, he is a good mark, once he works out how to kick straight he'll come close to being a 50 plus goal forward

Not in the Hunt

June 15th 2010 15:04
Gold Coast's new signing Karmichael Hunt made his debut on the weekend for the Gold Coast, and he started with a bang booting 2 goals, and then vanished, as far as the stats go. Sure, he ran around with his head cut off a few times, went to ground, and looked more lost then Sam Newman at a Women's Rights meeting.

It's easy to bag Hunt, in fact I already have, but let's face it, he was stupid going to France and then expecting to come back in and start off with a fire. People have been hyping him up from day one, and then when it came time to deliver, he just looked like he didn't give a toss. He's still in my opinion another year away from ever being in the right mindset to play football

The Baggies are back, that's right the English Premier League's version of a yoyo have actually climbed back into the premiership. Did you have any doubts? I didn't I fully expected them and Newcastle to jump back into the League and make another shot at it, but I also expect the Baggies to go back down again.

I am sure they will do a bit of shopping, but they still do not have the quality on the park to really stay in the premiership, and they have too much talent for the championship so they are going to keep going up and down until they find some money or a manage that can keep them from going down

I have to agree with you, there are so many people that are negative to this signing, but people should look at the fact that Australia will be without a lot of experience and no good talent coming through this guy is going to fix this!

It does, it should be given more attention then some minor spat, but because there is a Collingwood person involved and you know the media....but if the Dockers beat Collingwood watch the attention.

Decent blog this one, very well summed up the round. It's a shame the Freo win is going to be taking a backseat to the whole Malthouse/Milne saga.
