Caffeine Fix
"Bookworm Cafe?! That was MY idea!"
Annoyed both at herself and the fact that her not so unique idea's now taken by some commercialized bookstore, Zoe went inside still curious.
"Great! they even have those zen-like stacked stones thingies... still my idea! was anyone listening in my head when i thought about his?" She thought to herself.
She consoled herself at the thought that aside from the name and the stone thingies her idea was still intact. No cheap e-books for retail sale, no storytelling area for kids, no "reading room" for book clubs and a film viewing area for movie fans.
Comforted by this fact, she decided to browse through the books. Despite the fact that they took the name and a small portion of her idea, she's still a bookworm who simply cannot resist the sweet scent of freshly published pages of books and the somber mood lights inside the store. The wooden floor panels make it feel so much more... homey.
"Ah -- New Arrivals -- maybe i should check that out" she thought loudly. "I haven't been inside a bookstore for over a month."
She ran her fingers through each book title hoping to find something that will catch her interest. Having been too busy with work and helping her mom with some "family stuff" she hasn't read any good books lately and those "shopping" books are starting to annoy her.
Zoe's a romantic sap, despite her cynical outlook about a lot of mainstream stuff mainly in books and music (well yeah, sometimes fashion too). She still enjoys the occassional melting feeling when reading something that might be considered a little too high-schoolish especially for a woman in her late 20's.
She's almost at the end of the selection of new arrivals when she something caught her eye. A plain black hardbound book with a shiny black jacket and a bright red picture in the middle. Curious, she lighty held the book by it's spine, but at the same time a stronger grip held it in the middle which caused it to fall down with a loud thump.
Too absorbed in her curiousity she almost jumped in surprise.
"Uh, Sorry." said the face attached to the hand that gripped the book from her. "Didn't see you holding it."
"Uhh, no problem, didn't notice you either." Zoe hurriedly grabbed the book afraid the pages have wrinkled or have become dirty already and placed it back on the table.
"Were you going to buy this? I -- was just -- uhhh -- checking..." She trailed off, lost in her thoughts as she looked at the guy she's been in front of for the past 3 minutes already. She didn't realize the hand belonged to a handsome guy, about her age, a mix of preppy and rugged look, in fact, didn't seem like someone who'd be buying a book such as this (which looked like a romance novel).
"hmm.. I know i'm a sucker for sappy love stories but i can't possibly be having one of these serendipituous moments... too --- cheezy!" She thought to herself as the guy was staring awkwardly at her looking as if he's waiting for an answer.
"umm, huh? Sorry, something caught my eye over those uhh, shelves" she lied trying to sound convincing.
"If you were going to buy this I said I can just ask if they have another copy, I'm pretty sure they do, they usually don't have that much customers in this store" He said.
"Uhm, yeah they probably do. Don't bother I'll just ask them myself, I was still going to browse anyway." She replied.
"Ok, really sorry about that. I'll go ask at the counter and will let you know if I bump into you on my way out."
"Thanks." she smiled. As her mind raced for something else to look for (or pretend to be looking at) in this now very tiny bookstore.
