NFL Week 6

October 17th 2010 17:10
Well, I didn't get my picks done. Sorry about that, I never was great at meeting deadlines. I'm pretty good at working at my own pace, usually. Here's some notables though:

The Lions/Giants game is going to be very entertaining. Shaun Hill and the Lions have been passing 35-40 times per game --successfully I might add-- and the Giants have been terrorizing quarterbacks in the last couple weeks. As a matter of fact, with the exception of the Indy game --for obvious reasons-- they have been by far the most impressive defense. And even with the Indy game, they're still ranked #1 overall in the NFL. Should be very fun to watch.

The Pats/Ravens game will be extremely tough for both teams. The Pats defense has been horrible all year until week 4... which makes for an interesting question: Will the Pats be able to consistently get stops? If they can, watch out. This team is very solid on offense --even without Moss-- with a very effective running game with Green-Ellis at the helm of that. And when Fred Taylor comes back they'll have another goal-line back.

The Titans/Jags game on Monday night will be the best game this year so far, if not all year. Both teams starting to find identity, a big time division rivalry, and two explosive running back, among other things will make this an awesome game.

Teams to watch for:

Atlanta, New England, NYG, NYJ, Pitt.

Make or Break

October 16th 2010 07:55
Well, my beloved wolverines have a really tough game in about 12 hours. And no I don't want to talk about why I'm still awake. It's how I operate I guess. Anyway, I wrote last week about the big time rivalry game with Michigan State. And well, we didn't come out on top of that one.

This week however, lies another (possibly more important) game, facing the Hawkeyes of Iowa. It's a home game --thank God-- so I think there's a legit shot of stealing this one. Denard Robinson really needs to step up and not turn the ball over this week. If he can do so, this game is definitely winnable. Iowa's speed on defense isn't even close to good enough to keep up with Denard if he can get into their secondary. And Iowa's offense is inconsistent especially in the passing game.

This game is huge for Michigan, and especially Rich Rodriguez for one simple reason: Michigan's schedule is crazy hard for the rest of the season, and this game will set the tone for the rest of the year. A win here makes us bowl-eligible, a loss makes it a 2-game losing streak and 2 straight conference losses. If I'm right and this does in fact set the tone for the season, this could very well be Rich-Rod's last. And that would not only be devastating for him, but for the program in general. Another re-building project is NOT what Michigan Football needs.

In recent history, these games have done exactly what I said (with the help of some injuries last year), and set the tone for the rest of the season. And facing No. 15 Iowa is always a fight. So expect a knock down, drag out contest at 3:30ET tomorrow. It's definitely one to watch.

Friendly Fantasy

October 15th 2010 05:05
Like I posted on my Twitter and Facebook pages already today; I'm pretty sure I may be dead or in jail by the time the end of the weekend rolls around. My buddy and I are almost definitely going to fight to the death this weekend. Our fantasy football teams are going head-to-head this week and it could get ugly.

It's, at the least, very interesting how much fantasy football can enhance your NFL football experience on game days. This is the first season I've ever really gotten into it (with a bunch of friends) and I can't remember ever having so much fun on Sundays. However, at the same time I can't ever remember my friends fighting and arguing with one another.

Don't get me wrong, I love every minute of it. But it gets crazy how something as silly as a fantasy football league can get people's emotions and tempers going so quickly. And the league we're in is a free one. Some people actually pay for this stuff. I can see how it would be pretty fun competing for something more than just bragging rights; but as passionate as my friends and I are I think it would get to be a little over the top. Which most likely means that I will try it next year. It makes the experience so much better, and more fun, that it just might be worth a couple friendships with the not-so-close friends.

Anyway, I'm not going to do my picks yet just a couple things that are on my mind for fantasy players.

Starting with the Jags v. Titans game on Monday night:

This very well could be the game of the year so far. A huge rivalry to begin with, both teams with good coaches, and it being under the lights will all contribute to this being a fantastic and entertaining game. Both teams like to get nasty and physical. And as bad as the Jags D as been, I know they wont roll over. Del Rio will have this team ready to go, and you can count on the Titans D to show up and try to slow the improving offense of the Jags down drastically.

I have Jones-Drew, and Scobee on my team from Jacksonville. And I added Vince Young this week to start for me over Brady (because he's facing Baltimore) and I truly think that will be a genius and clutch move... at least I'm really hoping so.

My buddy has the Titans D, a D that I stupidly dropped last week due to, what was what I thought to be, match-up problems.

To try to counter that, I re-picked up the Giants defense because they should have a hell of a day against Detroit. Even as good as the Lions offense has been, the Giants terrorize quarterbacks. And with Shaun Hill throwing as much as he has been, they should get at least a couple turnovers. I also predicting 7-9 sacks.

So basically if Sunday isn't going to be bad enough... Monday is going to be much, much more intense. As NFL fans and fantasy football players, we live for this.

Week 5 Picks

October 9th 2010 23:44
Here we go for week 5. The NFL has officially made it's transformation into a mediocre at best (all around) league. Hasn't it been fun? Not only do the rule changes suck, but there's a threatening lockout and the only undefeated team is... Kansas City???

Whatever, here goes nothing

Rivalry Revitalized

October 9th 2010 04:43
Maybe it's fitting for my first post to be about an annual game that I've always despised, I guess thats the kind of karma I, as a University of Michigan fan, should expect and be used to. Lately U of M football hasn't quite been the same. Even with a 5-0 record and being ranked, it just still isn't the same.

I live and grew up in Mid-Michigan. Just south of Lansing; Spartan country. Literally my entire extended family is full of Michigan State fans. So you could say I'm the lone Wolverine living amongst Spartans. One thing has always been consistent; the so-called "rivalry" hasn't been much of one. Since I can remember I've taken all the trash talk of MSU fans, only to have a whole lot more to say than they do come Monday
