If you find yourself overweight and you haven't been exercising since long long time ago, I suggest you start by walking first; because it is the easiest way to let you achieve your goal of shaping up your body.

For overweight people who resume exercises after ceasing to work out for years, many exercises are not suitable for them. Take running as an example, when a heavy man tries to run, his huge mass of body will exert strong forces to his legs. As a result, he may injur his lower limbs without knowing it. If his thighbone fractures, then he may find it hard to walk again
