The 7th book of the Harry Potter series

Now I am reading the seventh book of Harry Potter, the Deathly Hollow. I've finished chapter 1 till chapter 23. The book is great. I really can't stop ploughing through the printed words about what is going to happen next. The danger around this seventeen year old boy is so imminent that he would have been caught and killed at any moment.
But reading so much so far, there are at least two points I don't understand. One of them is why Harry and his friends Hermione as well as Ron were so careless and they were easily caught by the snatchers. Being one who had the ability to confront the most powerful and evilwizard Voldemort, Harry should be able the protect himself and the other two. According to the story, he had reached 17 when he was captured. At the age of 17, I think he was not vulnerable anymore to the invasion of ordinary wizards. Then Hermione and Ron are bright and clever students at Hogwart. How come they didn't recognize someone was watching them nearby
