Bucket List Check: Jump out of a Plane with Best Mate

Skydiving
Up, Up, Up & away
we travel through clouds on a bright sunny day
climbing up high, above 10000 feet
the wind rushing past us and cooling the heat
"Stand by, engines cut",
we hear someone shout
as you slide to the back
and hear "ready? feet out"
Sheer terror, blood curdling
a hair-raising site
a spine chilling view
at incredible height
"Head up" as you push yourself into the sky
a monsoon of wind carries you as you fly
One thousand, Two thousand, Three thousand four...
the canopy opens and you breath once more
Now pulling the toggles
checks left, right & flare
now your in control
you do as you dare
An unforeseen silence emerges swiftly
as you glide through the air
so amazed what you see
Acres of pasture stretches below
as you float to the ground, so gradual & slow
Excitement develops like never before
as you long in an instant, to Skydive once more

This is a sonnet I found from a person called "Aspiring Angel". It does sum it all up and skydiving does require a sonnet it is so beautiful. I have changed one thing - I amended the height to above 10000ft from 5000. To be honest we jumped from 14000ft and it was hideous scary.
It was my second time jumping and on both times I have taken my closest friends for their respective 21st birthdays. This time it was Sam's turn and I tried to keep it for a secret of the last year of organising but somehow he had an idea, probably me and my stupid mouth at some stage.
I hadn't been this nervous in my life, I turned white with black eyes and you get to see me nearly vomit on the video and I am always shaking my hands as I lost blood circulation in them. It is very hard grasping the idea you are about to leave one of the ultimate comfort zones in the galaxy, the inside of a plane at 14000ft. I have difficulty leaving my house to go out on weekends but here I was jumping out of a plane, and remarkably it was harder the second time. I think my fear and thoughts on mortality have increased in respect to my increasing years. Sam was just like I was on my first jump - in heaven and ecstatic and the new experience to be had.
But all that fear leaves as soon as you leap out of the plane and turn around to see it fly away and then realise - this is the closest to being Superman I will ever get. You literally are flying, or if you really want to analyse it, falling gracefully at over 200kmph
Once the pull cord is ripped and you slow down at a remarkable speed the world takes on a new light. It is peaceful and you get to see the world from a very quiet and different perspective. Firstly, it is silent from where you are except for the wind ruffling through your chute. And it beautiful. Where we jumped at Wollongong on the NSW South Coast of Australia you get to jump over a beach so there is beautiful coastline underneath you with ocean on one side and pristine green pastures on the other. That slow and silent fall is like meditation and rejuvenation of the soul.
Skydiving is a MUST do for all in life. In refreshes you like you cannot imagine and breaks the monotony of life and spring cleans the soul. I am now happier with life and have set new goals since jumping. I now want to see more and do more and live life a little more adventurously and take advantage of the world just sitting at our doorstep. As I said to Sam - step out of that comfort zone at least once a year.
And Sammy, happy birthday mate, thanks for everything and love you lots.

a prissy girl's guide to changing the world
takes everything I've got just to look out the window of a commercial plan while strapped to my seat without clinging to the stranger sitting next to me.
