Cleveland Browns rant: Overview of the season and more
January 2nd 2012 04:33
The Browns finish with a 4-12 with an 0-6 mark against their own division. It should be no surprise there because they cannot beat anybody in their own division. Sure, they all but Cleveland made the playoffs but it's still no excuse. I don't want to hear lockout or new coach because quite frankly, I'm tired of it. I knew they were not going to be good after firing Magini.
I wrote an article about the expectations for this team. When I said do not expect much, I meant it. It's still no excuse to just play dead against their own division.
Should they stick with Colt McCoy? They should and it's getting ridiculous with the mentality that if they don't go to the Super Bowl right away, he's a bum. Could he fail? Possibly but nobody knows for sure and one full season is not going to be telling of a whole career. If that were true, the 49ers would have gotten rid of Alex Smith but they stuck it out. My point is that he was given a chance and it may work out for him. The Browns should do that with McCoy instead of just giving up and saying he's a bum and listening to the fans on that one.
They really should look at that offensive line and see what they can do to make it better. It is not the best line in the world and it's one area that I swear doesn't get addressed or even dealt with. It's like they ignore it and think it's not a problem. What Quarterback can survive with this type of line? I highly doubt that there is one.
Will Peyton Hillis be a member of the Browns? It'd be a shock if he ended up only because of what happened. He should have never be voted on the cover of Madden. Seems like bad things happen.
Same for Josh Cribbs. I wonder if they will trade him. I got a feeling he might request it because of being tired of the losing culture. Then again, maybe not.
Defense isn't bad and has potential to be strong but cannot play the majority of the game the whole time. You're not going to win that often going in that direction. At least, it hasn't yet.
I really wasn't thrilled with the head coaching and I still have to wonder if they really made the right choice. Well, I don't think going for a quick fire is going to work. They've been changing coaches way too frequently and they're never going to win if they don't stick with somebody.
Final thoughts: Unless they start winning against the opposition in the AFC North, expect the same song and dance over and over again. They will always be a last place team in that division. Pittsburgh and Baltimore are just too strong and cannot be stopped so quickly. Cincinnati is too much of a Jekyll and Hyde team to figure out what direction they are going and what type of team they are.
