Brooklyn Nets at LA Lakers

November 20th 2012 11:26
Recap from last night: I am really disappointed in Memphis struggling against a Denver team that has not really impressed me thus far on the season. Denver picked up a big win last night against a strong Memphis team which put an end to my back to back wins. I am now 6-11 in the NBA down 6.1 units. We have a small card in the NBA tonight but I did find a play that I like.

Brooklyn Nets at LA Lakers

Current Line: Lakers -6.5
Current O/U Line: 208.5

Brooklyn enters tonight contest riding a five game winning streak after Sunday night’s nine point road win at Sacramento.

Brooklyn’s success as of late has been coming from both sides of the ball. The offense for the Nets over the last five games is averaging 100.8 points per game. This season the Nets are averaging 97.5 points per game in which they are shooting 45.3% from the field and 33.5% from beyond the arc. Leading the Brooklyn offense is Deron Williams (18.0 PPG, 8.0 APG), Brook Lopez (17.8PPG, 6.4 RPG) and Joe Johnson (15.2 PPG, 3.6 RPG, and 3.5 APG). Small forward Gerald Wallace is back in the lineup after miss every game but two this season.

On the defensive side of the ball Brooklyn will be tested tonight against the new up- tempo style of the LA Lakers. Brooklyn is allowing 92.5 points per game in which opponents are shooting 45.3% from the field against them and 34.6% from beyond the arc. Brooklyn’s strength on the defense is the rebounding. The Nets have allowed just 48.8 rebounds per game this season ranking them 5th in the league in which they are going to need to continue that tonight against the Lakers big men of Howard and Gasol.

LA enters tonight’s game winning back to back games and four of their last five in which we have seen the offense for LA start to take off.

Over the last five game LA has scored triple digits in four of those five games in which they are averaging 103.8 points per game. On the season LA is averaging 100.5 points per game in which they are shooting 46.3% from the field and 34.5% from beyond the arc. The weakness to this LA offense is their free throw shooting in which they are averaging 68.9% from the line which will come back to hurt them when in a close game. The Lakers offense is led by Kobe Bryant (26.4 PPG, 5.4 APG and 5.7 RPG), Dwight Howard (20.0 PPG, 11.4 RPG) and Pau Gasol (14.3 PPG, 9.4 RPG).

On the defensive side of the ball we do not know what Lakers defense will show up. Is it the defense that has allowed back to back triple digit games or is it the defense that held Sacramento, San Antonio and Golden State to an average of just 83.7 points per game? On the season LA is allowing 95.5 points per game in which opponents are shooting 43.4% from the field and 34.4% from beyond the arc against them. LA’s strength has been their ability to limit opponents on the boards allowing just 47.8 rebounds per game ranking them 2nd in the league.

This game tonight is actually going to be an outstanding game to watch. Both of these teams have plenty of superstars that match up well with each other. Brooklyn is going to need their two big men Kris Humphries and Brook Lopez to contain Dwight Howard and Pau Gasol. Gerald Wallace and Metta World Peace will be a an entertaining matchup while Kobe gets Joe Johnson on him and Deron Williams will be matched up with Darius Morris who is filling in for the injured Steve Nash. LA is going to try and push the ball with their new look offense while Brooklyn should be able to keep up since Deron Williams is a quick points guard who will be able to move this offense at a fast speed. Opponents always bring their best when playing the top tier teams in which Brooklyn is probably looking forward to this matchup in which they should be ready for. I like this to be a close game and with LA’s struggles at the line Brooklyn should be able to keep this game within the spread. I am taking the underdog in this one.

Brooklyn 6.5 for 1 unit.

Daily fantasy basketball tip of the day: On a night like this with a small NBA card it is usually best to take the night off and not waste the money in any games. If you want to play you need to get an advantage over your opponents since most fantasy teams will have the same players. Example being tonight Dwight Howard will cost the most out of all six centers that are starting. If you think that most fantasy players will try and take him then look a different route and spend your money elsewhere so you can get an advantage in other positions while trying to use some of the other tips that I have thrown out there.
