Pauline Hanson has decided enough is enough.

In a 7news article, Hanson has declared she has had enough of Australia, and has decided to immigrate to Britain.

Well don't let the door hit you on the way out.

"I'm going to be away indefinitely. It's pretty much goodbye forever," she told Woman's Day in an interview.

"I've really had enough. I want peace in my life. I want contentment, and that's what I'm aiming for."

I must say, I'm not sorry to see her leave. Her anti-multi-culturalistic "we are in danger of being swamped by Asians", along with all her other muck ups regarding the Aboriginal peoples of Australia, and her ridiculous political attitude, all lend themselves to an image of a power wielding maniac who shouldn't be let anywhere near parliament house again.

Note: I realise as I re-read this post, that sounds pretty harsh. However this blog is about MY PERSONAL opinions and outlooks on Australian politics, so you're gonna get that from time to time.

But we don't need a baby mama....

February 13th 2010 09:44
According to an article on ABC news, Anna Bligh, premier of Queensland, has stated that laws will not be changed to allow gay/lesbian couples to adopt....but hey they can still use surrogates!

"In the case of adoption, the state has to make a decision to place a child into an unknown family," Bligh states.

"In relation to surrogacy, a childless couple whether they are same sex or not make a decision to enter freely into a voluntary known agreement with a surrogate mother."

Um...what?

Please tell me I'm not the only one who sees a flaw in this line of thinking. We've decided same sex couples, even if they are in a loving relationship with a good home life, cannot adopt a child, but they can certainly have a child if they can find a woman who doesn't mind being knocked up for a while.

Would that not make the situation worse? In the case of adoption, the child is taken in by two loving parents (is their sexual status really relevant in this case?), brought into their homes, and raised like any other child in an adopted family. In the case of surrogacy, the above is all the same, except for one key problem--a third parent!

I would have to think "dad and dad" or "mum and mum" would be preferable to "dad and dad and mum". I realise with the ideal surrogacy situation, the birth mother would fade out of the picture, or in an amiable case, turn into an aunt. But how do you explain that to the child when it gets older? At least with an adopted child, the birth parent has the options of "I wasn't ready", "I was in a bad place", "I couldn't take care of you" as plausible explanations. A surrogate born child, would have no other choice but to hear "sorry we lied to you, aunt kelly is really your mum."

But I digress. I think Anna Bligh needs to put a few things into perspective when it comes to this issue. With all the children that end up in foster homes/half way houses, due to dangerous and abusive home lives, why are we all focusing on the sexual orientation of the proposed parents in question? If a same sex couple can offer a child a safe and happy home life, with two loving parents, and the opportunities every child deserves, what is the problem?

What do you think? Do you think Anna Bligh needs to take another look at this subject?

In a talk on ABC radio national, Mr. Abbott states that Australia needs to follow New Zealand's approach to the global financial crisis.

''There are other countries which have chosen a different path, and there is no evidence that their response has been any less effective than ours,'' Abbott told ABC Radio National yesterday.

''For instance, in New Zealand they have tried to reform their way through the global financial crisis under the new government's leadership, and they seem to be doing pretty well. What Mr Rudd chose to do was to spend his way out of the crisis.''

I'm sure the fact that Australia has almost 2% less unemployment than New Zealand, and John Key, New Zealand's Prime Minister, has stated Australia as the model they are aiming for, completely skipped his mind. Or more likely his team of press release, marketing and PR writers were being a little hopeful. Still, it makes more sense to stick it to your opposition with proven fact than by making wild claims
