Flashes of memories - MUGABE MUST GO!!! ZIMBABWEANS NEED THEIR HOME BACK

There are as many nights as days, and the one is just as long as the other in the year's course. Even a happy life cannot be without a measure of darkness, and the word 'happy' would lose its meaning if it were not balanced by sadness - Carl Jung To be at one with God is to be at peace ... peace is to be found only within, and unless one finds it there he will never find it at all. Peace lies not in the external world. It lies within one's own soul. - Ralph Waldo Trine

Bring out the Irish in you!

Irish men ARE as sexy as they are stereotypically portrayed. However, if you travel around Ireland with a local, three things are going to happen.

1) You are going to be fed so much whiskey and soda bread that you won`t want to see it again for a LONG time after you leave.
2) You will have to sit through hours of family photos of people who you will never meet and never know... mostly because most of them have died!
3) You will be taken to a graveyard to see the graves of the people you have just looked at in the photo albums!

On our trip around Ireland I won`t subject you to any rellie albums, however do feel free to bring out the Irish in you and have a whiskey and a munch on some soda bread. (And if you haven`t watched 'PS I Love You' yet then you deserve a public flogging!)

Is Colin Farrell Irish? Because he has killer looks (shame about the personality, though).

I will get there someday... After NYC & East Coast America and Scandinavia... and India... and Latin America... and Egypt! lol

Not sure I like the whole tradition bit though.

I haven't seen P.S. I Love You yet because I don't like movies that deal with death... if someone ever puts all the scenic parts that explore Ireland in one YouTube video, I'd be thrilled.

Oh those shots are beautiful! I used to live in Northern Ireland when I was younger back in the 70s when the IRA situation was strong, so it was quite a turbulent place. I went back a few years ago and it felt strange seeing the army camp where I used to live.

I'd love to see more of the scenery like you'd done. Rich and I have five days to fill in our next trip and we're thinking of it...how long were you there, Ash?

Oh Ash... the pipes, the pipes are definitely bloody calling.

Lord but you have a knack with the camera, from glen to glen and down...to the gravesite.

Excellent post, and spot on anecdotes!

Hiya Epiphanie

He be Irish, to be shure to be shure! And he has the Irish in him FOR shure too!

Sounds like you have a long way to go before you get to ireland - I woudl recommend it to anyone. The people are absolutely lovely and the scenery is so dramatic - you`ll be driving down the road and slap in the middle of a farmers field is this great big ruin of some old building or another. Life stands still when you are there - people take their time, no stress, no hassle. Tractors phutt down the road and people tip their hats when they say hello. Superb!

PS I Love you is such a great movie - it`s got it all - the humour, the tears, the drama. AND the rather schmexy men

Hiya Trace

Ahh that would have been an interesting time to live there. We came across some old bunkers on the side of the road, now overtaken by the forest, but which had been there since WW2. It was really interesting to see it all.

I was there for 5/6 days. We flew into Belfast (Aer Lingus have some great deals and are a really good airline. They were even cheaper than the budget airlines when I was there)and hired a car and drove across country to Newport. If you are in that area try get to Achill Island - it`s beautiful out there (photos 5 and 6 are on Achill.) The beaches there were so pretty and they had these massive cliffs plunging into the ocean. It`s really peaceful with lots of little fishing bays and, of course, the bogs!

Then we headed North to the Giant`s Causeway, which is brilliant if you like walks. We also stopped in Clones and Eniskillen and another town about 15 minutes out of Belfast that I just can`t think of the name. But it has a river running through and a castle - great little place.

You`ll love it, I hope you get to stay over there. Also the Ring of Kerry and Cliffs of Mohar also look well worth the stop. We never got to go there, but my grandmother has been before and she loved it.

Ahh there`s so much contained in such a little place.. I`ll have to sneak in your luggage to come back again

HIya K

The whole time I was in Ireland I was thinking - ah Kleo would LOVE this. Getting the tractor out into the bogs to cut the turf and bake it in the sun to dry out and haul in for the fires at night. The range in the kitchen always burning to heat the house and cook the food.

I would definitely think you have some Irish in you!

Hiya Michaelie

Aww thanks, glad you enjoyed! I think everyone has a little Irish in therm - as there Irish say, there are only two types of people, those who are Irish and those who WISH they were Irish!

I like to think I'm a little bit of everything...

*Sigh* Ireland sounds great, I'm very curious about it... and if I move to Europe soon, as is likely, I'll have the opportunity to check it out sooner than I think!

Fab shots!

p/s...I don't think I could watch 'P.S I Love You' again. I watched it on the plane, and by the time I arrived at my destination I looked like someone had beaten me up Red...puffy eyes... I did however like the film...
