Breakfast for the Brain and Why Paint?

October 19th 2006 06:10
A slice of colour
Colour and Balance

Following on from yesterday I thought I'd make things a little easier for you.

Here are more details on breakfast for the Brain.

Skipping breakfast reduces performance to a considerable degree.

Fizzy drinks and sugary snacks are OUT!

Beans on Toast is good, - high protein and fibre -

OR, wholemeal toast and vegemite. The yeast extract is a rich source of B vitamins linked very strongly with successful brain activity.

Avoid junk food.

Why Paint?

It seems many are concerned with the limitations imposed on my Art from using Paint.

Is it not true that it is more taxing for the brain to work with less efficient
tools than with tools that make things easier, and dare I say it more
predictable? and not such a challenge for those using their minds to extract meaning or even perceive what imagery exists?

The idea is to encourage computer literacy by the use of Paint.

Paint, although initially challenging, is not difficult for people to play
with and its introduction is a reasonably stress free way of
encouraging computer familiarity that then can lead to a degree of
literacy and meanwhile the tasks themselves encourage the
working brain which can induce the growth of neural connections
within the Brain which can compensate for nasty little plaques
that disrupt memory.

I guess with the Brain, it's use it or lose it. This is not to suggest any judgment should be made on those who do have medical conditions or
unfortunate genes when it comes to maintaining continuing brain health.

I enjoy Paint, I have no aspirations to join the common ranks of those
formally trained, my idea is to achieve something different and do it by
my own efforts at the same time as trying to help others around me.

By the use of a blog my chances of reaching an audience who need it
most are slim as those very same people are not generally in a
position to access computers and many prefer to stay away.

But the audience I can attract do have family and friends who in turn have family and friends so, hopefully, indirectly, I can reach those who
can benefit most.

My blogging audience does have brains and minds and I hope
some of that audience will be interested from their own point of view.

I am also aware of the financial potential of the web. I am not seeking a career here but an opportunity to make money and potentially a lot of it
is there and is very real, but not necessarily from the way in which I am currently proceeding but for the time being this avenue suits me
admirably and I enjoy what I am doing even though I find it is much
more time consuming than I anticipated.

I hope to adapt around those circumstances and may well be faced with a situation where I have to.

These are just some of my thoughts. If they are repetitive it is because I believe that is necessary to endeavour to achieve my end.

I am not drawn to the simple, I am drawn to challenge and I particularly
like the challenge of the mind. White water rafting is not for me,
although I'm sure I would love it as an occasional activity, should my body be able to withstand it.

I'll keep on writing in the hope that at least some will be interested in listening and will find me.

I am including another image, very simple, showing some childlike attempts. I have made it pink for girls.

I'll do another similar with blue for boys!

Everyone has to start somewhere, but what appears below is not easy for the beginner and someone unfamiliar with paint and no I don't mean me, silly, I mean YOU!

katyzzz ...

I think the concept of what you are trying to do is one of the most selfless things a person could do in this life (Yes, I'm taking into account that we all want to make money and there is a certain sense of selfishness in everything we do in this life, but at the same time, the idea itself is rooted and grounded in helping others out) ...

In my opinion ... you don't have to justify that to anyone ...

I'ts a mighty challenge to be on a computer literate site and appeal to the computer illiterate, but it is my firm belief that someone out there will realise the potential of what you are trying to achieve and be in the position to help you realise your dream of turning this idea into something more than what it is at the moment ... I see potential written all over this concept ...

If it was an invention ... and was on a program like the inventors or new inventors of whatever they call that program nowadays ... it would get my votes ...

And without giving you any advice ... but to only offer a suggestion ... Do you really need to justify a great idea to the computer literate?

One of my favourite quotes in life is by Ezra Pound (F. Scott Fitzgerald's editor) ... He wrote:

Pay no attention to the criticism of men who have never themselves written a notable work ...

I hope it succeeds ... I've gained an enormous amount out of your blog ...

I rediscovered my childhood ...

Homer,

To rediscover childhood, what a privilege.....a child is the most precious thing on earth.

I'm glad to see you've recovered from the party and are still hanging in there.

Your words are very kind and very profound and you have that huge reservoir of literature on
which to draw.....no pun intended.....your Artwork on the last woman on earth, with just a few lines
and simple colours was a masterpiece as was your poetry.

It is not that I am seeking to justify what I do, just explain and to be honest, I value honesty very
highly although I doubt whether any of us have the capacity to be truly honest.

It is very important for me to explain myself as I need, especially at this stage, to at least try to engage
the interest of those available to me, with the ideas I promote, which ideas related to the Brain
and Mind are important for everyone.

You are inspiring and I was a delighted to see your keen interest at the party! You really got in
to the spirit of things and were completely enthusiastic about what you were doing.

Congratulations!

Fortunately, Jemima has retired again, at least for a short while and that leaves me in a little more peace.

I notice parties are coming into vogue and I get the distinct impression that things will really open up for
bloggers, I nearly slipped then and wrote bogglers.....I must get into the Vegemite.

katyzzz - poor replacement for Jemima.

The party!

I'm still recovering ...

Thank God there is lots of Vitamin B in beer (and a lot of liquid) ... Just one thing I can't work out ... How come I drank all night and feel so thirsty?

Homer,

I think it's something to do with alcohol being a natural diuretic, you excreted more fluid that you took in,
I should be able to give you a better answer than that and I'm not so sure about that Vitamin B bit,
alcoholics, not that I'm suggesting, in any way that you are one, are notoriously nutritionally deficient, even though
alcohol is in itself a good food, but very bad, in excess, for the liver.

I'll check out the Biochemistry for you, I've had so much information stuffed into my brain, that I can't always
recall it at will, and often it has not been interpreted sufficiently to allow explanations for individual circumstances.

There will be more to come on this - just allow me a little time.

Homer,

Sorry to disappoint you but there are calories in alcohol and very lttle else.

Vitamin content is negligible.

Sorry, I'm sure you don't want a research paper on this, but the calories provided in alcohol also provide
less useful calories than those provided by food and other drinks.

Amongst other things alcohol interferes with the body's absorption of the B vitamin complex.

I think this deals with your misunderstanding of the vitamin content of alcohol.

Sorry, yes, I am a wowser, obviously Jemima is not, but my only interest here was to answer your
question and correct a misunderstanding.

I'm sure alcohol and the effects on the Brain will come up again as my blogging progresses.

I'm afraid I'll be responsible for your throwing your hands up in despair, and declaring 'Saints preserve us"

And you're probably right.

katyzzz - can't help myself -bad habits - perhaps Damo will provide the music.

katyzzz,

If the only thing I acheive by being facetious about excessive alcohol intake is to inspire a new post on your marvellous blog ... then it has all been worthwhile ...
