Brain gain not without some pain

October 14th 2006 05:53
The good, the bad and the ugly
Simple colour changes, simple work sample

I promised you the recommendations from the Mayo Clinic for maintaining
brain function and delaying deterioration. We are all living longer and all should be concerned.

Mayo Clinic's recommendation for mind exercise

The Mayo clinic brings the following information for you (this line from katyzzz)

Exercise your mind
Just as physical activity keeps your body strong, mental activity keeps your mind sharp and agile. One way to do this is to continually challenge yourself by learning new skills. If you continue to learn and challenge yourself, your brain continues to grow, literally. An active brain produces new connections between nerve cells that allow cells to communicate with one another. This helps your brain store and retrieve information more easily, no matter what your age.
How can you challenge yourself? Try:
1 Learning to play a musical instrument
2Playing Scrabble or doing crossword puzzles
3 Interacting with others
4 Switching careers or starting a new one
5 Starting a new hobby, such as crafts, painting, biking or bird-watching
6Learning a foreign language
7 Volunteering
8 Staying informed about what's going on in the world
9 Reading
A mentally stimulating job, taking classes that interest you or even just reading more can help you maintain your memory longer as you age.

How do you like all that! It's interesting isn't it?

Of course there's the general health requirements too and I'll post all that for you, as well, should any of you display any interest.

You might like to come up with suggestions of new mental activity.

All ideas are worthy of consideration.

I'll tell you more about the brain next time and hopefully come up with a more challenging piece of art than this one.

Sometimes it's just nice to see something that's not so challenging.

I'd like to hear from any of you, as well as Homer, as to what you're doing and
how you're challenging your own minds, or are you coasting?
