Bollywood Box-office collections

April 5th 2011 11:15
There are many accusations that box office in India is very obscure and little real data is available but this is not the case today. No doubt it is not an open book as in the West but it is not as bad as it is made out to be. A case can be made that figures were hard to access 10 years ago but today they are more readily available today amd most of people who track box office in the industry have actual figures.

Faltu Has Good Weekend Game Is Disaster
Faltu has done very well at the box office over its first weekend. The film has collected a good 10-10.50 crore nett as per early estimates over the first three days. The collections do not tell the whole story as the film has lost 5-6 crore nett due to the cricket. Firstly on Saturday the collections were down heavily due to the match and then on Sunday, there was the after win affect with collections 15-20% lower than what they normally would have been.
A normal weekend and Faltu would have picked up around 16 crore nett which would have been a fantastic total for the film. Faltu may remain very steady on Monday due to the lost business over the weekend.
Game is a horrific disaster with collections around 2.50 crore nett over its first weekend. The film lost around 1.50 crore nett because of the cricket but it would have made no difference to final outcome.

Game Makes It Very Easy For Faltu On First Day

Faltu had all the market to it itself as Game simply failed to collect at the box office. Game saw disastrous collections at the box office meaning it was like a solo release for Faltu.
Faltu was always supposed to open better but no one would have thought this much better. Some may have put it 30-40% higher or even 70-80% higher but Faltu seems to have managed an amazing 375-400% collections higher than Game. The all India day one collections are looking 4.75 crore nett for Faltu and 1.25 crore nett for Game as per early estimates.
Game has double the production budget of Faltu at around 27-28 crore compared to the 13-14 crore of Faltu and has also been released on 75 more theatres though shows at multiplexes are similar. Game is heading to be the first big disaster of 2011 while Faltu has one obstacle of Game out of its way and the World Cup Final and Thank You left to contend with.
